Just an update incase this happens to anyone else
I decided while in town to nip in to the bank and ask if this was preapproved and if not to cancel my appointment. He said they sometimes do special preapproved offers for customers but he couldn't see anything for me so that would mean I would have to do a full credit check and application. I cancelled my appointment.0 -

So it is fair to conclude that 2 prompts exist.
One for pre - approved and the other for just a general sales prompt
Best is to enquire if in doubt so as to ascertain where you fit it0
