HBOS offer of credit card in bank

in Credit cards
In November I applied online for the HBOS One card. I was rejected.
I was in my Branch on Friday depositing some money and the lady turned her screen to me and said "It is coming up with the offer of a credit card here. Have you been in recently to have a review?" ( I couldn't read it fully before she turned it back)
I told her no and that I had applied for one a couple of months back and been rejected. I agreed to set up an appointment for February. How likely do you think this message that came up on her screen was an offer? Or was it to say she was to ask me if I wanted one to try and get me in to apply. I wondered if anyone else had this happen to them and then gone in to be accepted.
I think its all very strange - Would it make a difference applying in branch than in online?
Sorry for all the questions. My credit report had no issues when I applied, but I thought they were maybe put off by me being a tenant. I'm now actually a homeowner. Anyway any ideas/advice greatly appreciated.

the compter generates sales prompts and they act on them. If you were declined just a few months ago i would wait. The system they use is so bad (i used to work for them) its never pre approved. They will run another credit check at time of new application so you may possibly pass it but we were always told to tell customers to wait at least 6 months before applying again.would love to win an ipad!

I can confirm that this prompt is not pre-approved. They would run another credit check.
Best advise is to wait for 6 months before applying0 -
Thanks hunnycat!
I thought it was wishful thinking! Funny how I managed to get a mortgage the month before the decline lol But I don't mind waiting. I just wanted her to stop trying to sell me stuff ( She went for life insurance, home insurance, my mortgage deal and then the credit card)0 -
Thanks NP! we posted the same time0

To offer an alternative view, I can confirm I've previously accepted two cards from Halifax which were pre-approved offers (one a Halifax One card and the other a Charity card). Each time I verified that no external CRA search was made for either product by subsequently checking my credit report.naijapower wrote: »I can confirm that this prompt is not pre-approved. It seems they have tightened up now?0 -

No.
HBOS will give their cashiers two different types of prompts for credit cards: ones where it's just suggested, and ones where there is actually a pre-approved offer.
They will be able to tell you in the branch before you apply whether you have a pre-approved offer for a credit card. If this is the case, then, as YorkshireBoy has confirmed, there will be no credit check.
Alternatively, you might be down as 'probable accept', in which case they will do a credit check, but unless there's anything awful on there you are highly likely to get it.0 -
I had a pre-approved credit card from BOS. I was in branch doing some routine stuff and told me I have been accepted for a credit card and asked if I want it.
I of course said yes, so they printed the agreement, I signed and the card arrived some days later. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I think what I will do then is go in for the meeting and ask there and then is this pre approved or will I get credit checked again? and if they say credit checked again I will say no thank you.0

I had a similar experience in December. I was declined a few days before, but when I was in branch I was offered the credit card. I was accepted later without any credit searches.
When the CS asks you if you'd like a credit card, they have a pre-approved amount. Ask her for how much it is.
If there is already a pre-approved amount, then it means highly likely you'll get it.
Best of luck!0 -
Thanks for all this advice!0
