Payg sim for backup or emergency use

Do any of the networks currently have a good record of not cutting off sim cards and revoking unused credit?

Ones to take off the list from experience so far are:

Vodafone.
Asda (probably no surprise since Asda uses Vodafone's network).

I have searched the net and here, but most of the info is a few years old.

Thanks in advance.

I keep an Asda Sim on a second phone in the car as an emergency phone and make one call a month on it to keep in compliance.

It is worth the 8p it costs me.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I've got an old Tesco Mobile PAYG sim that hadn't been used in over three years. I tried it the other day and it is still valid.

    Tesco Lite is only 8p a minute and 4p a text. http://www.tesco.com/mobilenetwork/payasyougo.aspx?page=84

All main networks say you need to make call/ send text every 6 months, some enforce it quicker then others.

    Tesco don't.

    From their website....

For UK calls and texts, picture messages and browsing, your free credit gets used up before the top-up you paid for, which never expires.

All network expire a number if its not used for a long time, or the servers would clog up with millions of number that are never used.

From what I recall Virgin are about the best, but even they won't keep a sim live if its not used. The only way to keep a number running is to put a reminder in your main phone to send a text from it ever 3 to 4 months and then you're safe...

"5.4 If you do not use your Mobile Phone for six months we will disconnect you and you will lose your Credits and Mobile Phone number. If your Mobile Phone is disconnected and you would like to reconnect it, you must call Customer Care. If we agree to reconnect you, you must pay a reconnection fee. Details of the current reconnection fee are available by calling Customer Care. "

You may find your sim works after six months but their is no guarantee.Sooner or later they will recycle the unused number.
