Just been declined for Capital One Card

I've just applied online for a Capital One Classic card and it didn't accept...and I thought these were meant to be easy to get! lol...

Just applied for a free credit report online...maybe there's something on there that's stopping me  I'm a student and have never had a credit card/anything on credit before so I don't know...I'm on the electoral role and I do have a part time job raking in only about £4000 a year though...maybe I should just apply through my bank

    Strange

Can't see why you got declined for a Capital One Classic (very rear).

It maybe someone else in the house who's managed to get it blacklisted if youv'e never had anything on credit before.

It's strange. I live with my parents, neither of them own a credit card though, although they did get some furnature last year on interest free credit - but at the time they were told they had a perfect credit score. My application wasn't actually declined per se, but the usual 'contact you in 10 days with a decision' - as I work with store credit cards, this usually means No...I'll wait for a decision and I'll get my credit rating. If it's declined, I'll turn to my bank...

This happened to me. I got the spiel about 10 working days but the application was declined. I've recently been accepted by Egg and Barclaycard.

Why don't you call them and ask, you have just assumed that you haven't been accepted, is this because it didn't give you an instant online decision?

To be honest with you i started off as you with no credit history and went for a capital one classic and was told the same usual

'contact you in 10 days with a decision'

i was thinking a big fat NO, but got a letter in about a week and was told i can have the card with a limit of £200 (i now have cars with limits of upto £10k).

So you never know, give it a week or 2.

Well I got this response too from a recent card application and got a call 2 days later offering a £12,000 limit so it doesnt necessarily mean no.

It may be best to go for any card you can get to start with, just to build up a credit record. I think many people find it's easiest to get a card from their regular bank. Make sure you use it scrupulously for a few months, then have another try for the card that you really wanted.

Did you apply online after between about 23:00 and 08:00? If so, you will generally not get an instant decision, because the credit bureaux are unavailible during these hours. You app will be queued until the next day and then batch decisioned. Obviously, they will have to notify you by post of the decision in this scenario

Alternativley, you may well have been referred to an undewriter for a manual assesment. This could be for any number of reasons, but it may be because you have a "thin file" i.e. very little credit info on which to base a decision.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.
