I stand corrected!
Maybe not just spinach then.
I still believe that a baby can get as much iron as they need from their diet without you having to pay an extra £15 odd a week for 'special' milk.
So are you advising that he has no milk at all? (confused smilie)
The follow on milk is no more expensive than the milk he is currently on.
I wouldnt put him on cows milk until he's 1yo.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
I didn't put mine on a follow up milk at all. My HV advised me not to bother, she said the reason why they have them is they market them from 6 months to 2 years meaning you start it and then are still buying it when the child could have cows milk instead (from 12 months, though check my kids are 9 and 6 and advice changes all the time). As said you can make sure they have iron in their diet by the food you give them.0

Our HV's say there is no need to switch to follow on milk at all, and stage 1 milk until they are 12 months and then move on to cows milk is absolutely fine. They also say the Aptamil is the closest formula to breast milk and they always (unofficially) recoomend that one.
If your baby is happy on the stage 1 or hungry baby milk then there isn't really a need to change to follow on milk. Although if it's something you feel you should be doing, then Aptamil.
Yes they do say that, but my understanding is that it may be the 'closest' but it isn;t actually close, if you see what I mean. Like a tomato is more like an apple than a banana but it still isn;t an apple.
not that it makes any difference to Glam's question, but formula is not comparable to breastmilk, although obviously if you can;t/won't breastfeed then it will provide appropriate nutrition, just not all the extra stuff breastmilk provides.
So I don;t think it matters much which formula you choose really, just go fow what suits your pocket/loyalty card.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I didnt bother with follow on milk i used plain old forumla milk for my eldest that was bottle fed my other two were breastfed until 6 months when they switched to stage 2 forumla milk. Follow on milk is a clever marketing ploy as they are not allowed to advertise first stage forumla milk on tv and such like anymore. There is enough iron in normal forumla just as there was 11 years since when follow on milks began appearing on shelves.Sometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait :eek:

People are saying that there is no need to switch your baby from the current formula to follow on milk it wont damage his health and there is enough iron.
Alrhough the follow on milk ads claim about Iron is intended to be aimed at breastfeeding mothers not those already using forumla IYSWIMSometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait :eek:

Yeah, they're trying to scare BFing mums into thinking they need to go onto formula, but while there is less iron in breastmilk than formula, it is more easily absorbed by the baby, so it's swings and roundabouts really, and babies should be OK as they are starting solids at that age anyway.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I'm with some of the others in that DD had boob milk then Aptamil Stage 1 and stayed on that until 12mths when she went on cows milk.
Again advice of HV was there is no need for follow on milk as stage 1 will give all baby needs and rest should be coming from solid food when weaning starts.0 -

Its just expensive thats all. I went onto Aptamil Hungry Baby because he needed it and he was OK on the Aptamil Comfort. Would prefer to switch to another brand as they are generally cheaper.
