ABH wrote:I can't help thinking that if you are running XP, then if you goto "start\run" then type "eventvwr" and press Ok. Then from the resulting box, click on Applications, order the entries in time order, then look for the corresponding entry, there should be a red "X" denoting a problem, double click the entry and it will show an "event id", copy those details here and it may give someone a clue as to what the problem maybe.
HTH
Thanks - here is the last error
Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x629133b1.
and here is the previous one
Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x10017cf0.
Have also noticed this:-
Fax Service failed to initialize any assigned fax devices (virtual or TAPI). No faxes can be sent or received until a fax device is installed.
I'm not trying to send a fax and have never tried. Have a Dell all in one with the facility to do so but have not used it. Why would my pc be trying to send a fax without any application open apart from IE?

Tried resetting as suggested
"To have a go at solving the problem try this
Open IE Tools
Click Internet Options,
Programs Tab,
Click Reset Web Settings, remove tick from reset homepage and then click
YES then OK"
but it just did it again when I closed the browser window (send error report).
There are about 15 add-ons. It will take me ages to try finding the culprit. A little job for the weekend methinks. There is always light within the dark0 -

It's beginning to look that way, if all else fails then there is this:

HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Thanks ABH
Did you make any sense of the error messages I posted? Any ideas what this fax thing is all about?

Also, please post the full error details from Event Viewer. Do this by double-clicking the error to display the Event Properties and then click the icon that looks like 2 pages. That will copy the event details to the clipboard and then you can paste it into this thread.0 -

If that is the case I would now try uninstalling and reinstalling your IE. Alternatively you could download Firefox or Mozilla and use them instead.

I would also try reinstalling IE. See How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP. Make sure you do as it says and scan for Windows updates after applying the changes.
What about the fax error? Is that still happening?0 -
Thank you both.
I now suspect that it is my Yahoo toolbar. Having unchecked it I can open and close browsers no problem. Error report comes up as soon as it is enabled.
When I first installed it I had problems and received the following instructions.
Thanks for writing to Yahoo! UKIE Customer Care.
Please click the start button on your task manager to run the registry
editor again. Select the "run" option from the pull-up menu. Type
"regedit" and click "OK".
1) Please select:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Bro
wseNewProcess
2) In the right pane, look for the value called "BrowseNewProcess". If
the value is "no", change it by double-clicking BrowseNewProcess. Then
type "yes" and click "return".
3) Reboot your computer.
4) If your Toolbar does not appear on your browser, please visit
http://toolbar.yahoo.com/
and click on the link that says "Get Yahoo! Toolbar Now".
Please let us know if the Toolbar does not appear on your browser.
Thanks for using Yahoo!.
That was back in February and problem with IE has only been for past couple of weeks. Is it possible the two are connected? There is always light within the dark0 -
If disabling the Yahoo toolbar fixes it then it appears to be the root of your problem. Try uninstalling it, downloading it again and reinstalling.
