iPhone killer app, and other questions
I'm contemplating buying an iPhone, but would like some more details before I decide. So if anyone can help, I'd be much obliged.
With most current phones, you can set custom tones for a contact (when they call, and with some phones when they SMS you). Is that possible on the iPhone?
Are there any 'killer apps' on the iPhone? The few apps that are shown on the Apple website don't seem like anything that would appeal to me, so aren't a good selling point.
Thanks.

Wikitude is good, played with it on an android phone. Previous company i worked for paid them to make a modified version of it for a demonstration. RedBull have also paid them for it too.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Well, for me anyway, the Guardian app (£2.39) is ridiculously well designed and pleasant to use, and it gives me the entire content of the published newspaper for free every day. Skype (free) lets me make cheap international calls when I'm using a wifi connection. Kayak (free) helps me plan spur-of-the-moment business travel very easily, and thetrainline.com (free) and CrossCountry Train Search (free) are both very useable journey planners for UK rail journeys. There is an official National Rail Enquiries app that gets very good reviews, but it looks a bit steep at £4.99 when those other two apps do almost all of the same features for nothing.
Oh, and then there's iPity, for the childish Mr. T fan in me...0 -
Palm pre for me. Was going to get an iPhone but don't like the touch screen keypad. Email app on the Pre is top top stuff. Other apps that are out are pretty good now and expect lots of very good ones after Palm at the CES. The iPhone will have more apps as it has been out longer but some are a bit much on the wallet.
Only downside to the Pre for some is storage but i think 8GB is more than enough for me. Another was the fact the Pre does not have video capture, just like the first iPhone but Apple made you buy a brand new phone to get it and Pre are doing an over the air update (no need to plug phone to computer) which will have the new app cat and it will install the software for video capture which i think is pretty cool.0 -

The problem with wikitude AR is that it needs a direction, i.e. you need to walk in a direction with satnav on for it to tell which way is north so it can place the icons in the right place. This is fixed with some newer phones that include a compass as well as GPS. So you can stand still and turn the phone and the icons will adjust correctly.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
