Equals $$$. Same for video on iTunes etc., although you can play on up to five (I think) machines, there's no way to sell secondhand without including your iTunes account details.
So I think there's a massive need for proper 'fair use' rights to govern what you can do with something you paid for, digital download, physical DVD or whatever. But fat chance of that...
Not only does it kill the second hand market, it also therefore kills the value of your purchase, as you can no longer sell unwanted games.
And also, you are buying at a fixed price - no special offers at a retailer, Buy One Get on Free, 2 for £30 etc. At the moment, I can get most of my 'real' games for £10 - £15, by waiting for deals and offers. That is the same price as most WiiWare, that is nowhere near as good.
Then, if your console breaks or is stolen, all your games are GONE.
Take a game round to a mate to play. NO, it is stuck on your console.
And where is the fun that you get from going to a shop, choosing the game, getting it home (or delivered via a web order) unwrapping it, getting out the disk, reading the booklet etc etc
I could go on ...
In my mind, it would do more long term damage than good to the market. I for one would not have bought a Wii and around 30 games had it all been digital download.0 -
A lot of doom and gloom about digital delivery.
How about being able to install your purchase on a dozen consoles but only play it on one at a time by signing in? That is pretty how much Steam works for PC's right?0 -

That's almost a good idea. I still want to be able to play if my internet is down.
My current router is a bit buggy I'll sometimes have to reboot it, I guess on average once every 2 days but on some days up to 5 times. Doesn't bother me at the moment with respect to regular internet, but will my game instantly pause itself? Will it close? Will I lose save data? What if the internet goes down for a couple hours and I want to close the game?
Bikertov hit the nail on the head. Software publishers want it both ways, they like to claim that you haven't bought a disc but you've bought a "license", to restrict your rights. Such logic should imply that they should replace your disc for little money (just cost + postage + little bit for profit) if you need it, but not many do.0 -
Digital Delivery is a bit like Direct Debits, IMO ...
They are GREAT for the organisations pushing for them, as it gives them control.
It is BAD for consumers, because it takes control away from them ...0 -
I've got to say, I agree with the principle of being allowed to make backups. It is to easy, especially with kids around, to scratch a disk rendering it useless. We should be able to work off a copy.
However, it would open up the way to make pirating very easy - just look at the DS with the R4 card.
So a solution ?
The game publishers should have a system where they will send you a new disk if you return an old one, for very little money or even free. SIMPLE. The cost to them - almost zero, as to produce the disk itself is pennies, plus a bit of postage. That would take away ANY excuse for needing to make back-up, and the publishers protect themselves against piracy. Cheap solution for them, good customer services for us.
BUT NO - they are too greedy to do this, as they want us to buy another game - that we have already bought
Most game companies already do! When my son scratched Mario Kart we sent it back to Nintendo who replaced it free of charge. Lots of other game comapnies do the same or charge a small fee.
As for digital delivery it's excellent.
I use Steam on my PC. It updates my games automatically and allows me to play them on any machine that I log into my steam account on. Also if I buy a new machine I just need to install steam, login and all of my games will be downloaded and installed again.
It makes it much easier to manage your game collection. I think consoles will be moving to digital distribution in the future.
You get some cracking bargains on Steam as well. No reason why consoles wouldn't be able to do the same.
The issue of second hand sales dosn't bother me personally as I've never sold a game second hand or bought one. I can see how it may be an issue for some people however. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

What is the process for Soft modding, or where can I find more info ?
there are several forums with tutorials on this. So i won't post a link as it is not really to be discussed in these forums.
It is not illegal, but nintendo can reverse softmodding via their updates (Iplayer for example). Their is alos a chance of bricking your machine.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..
