What about the policy ending. Does it end after claim - i.e. I have to take out a new policy?

NB - checked the excess thing - and it applies to all claims...no third part let-off (they are Diamond).

I doubt it's different for any other years significantly...
    Definitions (page 1)
Excess The amount you must pay towards any damage to or loss of your car you are responsible for the excess even if the incident is not your fault
You don't pay excess on a claim for damage to third party car. Oh and 'No', the policy will still be valid for the rest of the year at no extra cost to you..... you only pay more next year on renewal, if you have some no claims built up and you don't have them protected this will cost you '2 years' no claims.

Get chips away to quote for all the scratches [ the ones already there beforehand that you mentioned plus yours ] on that bumper then offer to pay your share.

I had my front bumper repaired by chips away when a collegue accidently reversed into it. I have used them a few times before. Was a light scuff that they repaired by painting one side of the bumper. At the time I was happy with all of the repairs but as time has gone on I have noticed that the repairs look tatty as it appears the laquer has gone very rough and no amount of t cut will sort it. Now two years on I need to have the full bumper resprayed. My advice is if you are going to pay for it to be repaired get the bumper done properly at a body shop. It will cost more but the job will be much better and less chance of your neighbour moaning later.

Go and have a look to see if your neighbours tyres are within the limit. If they are not, take a picture and give it to the police. Also check to see if the car is taxed and if not, report it.;)

a front bumper can usually be resprayed for around £150. not at a main dealers obviously but at a small independant body shop. the guys i know that do it are incredibly quiet at the moment so prices should be good.

Do we know anything about the the neighbours car?

Personally, i wouldnt necessarily want my bumper repainted by anyone who cant ensure the paint warranty is maintained.

My neighbours daughter reversed his works van into the side of my 4 day old passat. Damaged the wing to the extent it needs a new one.

£950 to have it done by the main dealer.

going by the op's post the scratch they put on it is now one of several that were there befre they scratched it, so i think any paint warranty might be already out the window.
