Engine not starting... Any advice?
Hi, hoping someone doesn't mind helping out on this, all car forums seem to charge! My 1999 vw polo 1 ltr was working well then all of sudden won't start. The battery is good and there is fuel when the ignition is switched on the display doesn't come on and fuel and temp don't register. All other electricals work lights wipers etc and the fuses are all ok? Any advice as can't even get to garage for them to check!

Hi - just to get a bit more info does the engine turn over when you turn the key - do you hear any noise from the engine that sounds like it's trying to start or hear nothing at all? Also do the instrument panel lights come on - if so which ones light up or do none come on at all? Seems strange for no instrument panel lights to illuminate yet the rest of the car's electrics - lights, windows etc - all work normally.0

Not much point doing that if the battery is good and the engine is turning over.0 -
Thanks for the reply! The car turns over but doesn't start no dash or guages come on. got the noise of the battery but nothing else. When oh last drove it a warning came that according to the manual was insufficient brake fluid but the levels are actually ok, it was also running fine with that until got home but then didn't start next time. Hope that is enough info?0

Don't suppose you have breakdown cover with home start do you?0

Regretably not! Maybe should push it down the road?!0

Funny about the dash, nothing lights up at all on the dash? Checked the fuse for the dash?
You're POSITIVE there is fuel in the car? You're absolutley positive because we had someone here a few weeks ago who also was positive he had fuel, but when he put 5 litres in, the car started!0 -
All fuses seem intact, in engine and in glove box. Oh says 1/4 tank fuel and the only warning light that came on when last driven was the warning for hand brake/ break fluid. Appreciate the time given on this!0

Where to? A local garage? I'd walk and tell them you're coming before you do that.
He meant push it down the road so he can call the breakdown out. you need to be a 1/4 mile from home according to most breakdown companies.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
