You can disable it from starting up with your computer by putting "msconfig" in the Search box on Start menu.
But tbh Java is one of the things you do want kept up to date ASAP (along with your AVG, Flash, Adobe Reader and your web browser).
So I suppose a nice polite little note to Sun Microsystems saying "My computer seems to have a problem blether blether..... would contribute to this thread if they respond.0 -

Thanks, have read all the Guardian comments though, and it made me think, it's re-hashing a older idea, but not acknowledging the source. We need a constant and popular de-bunking resource, don't we?0
