Morning,
Due to recent catastrophic loss of my Acer laptop, have just purchased new Compaq CQ61-360SA running windows 7
The only thing I've downloaded is AVG
I keep getting a flacshing icon at the bottom of the screen, shaped like a shield, marked 'Jucheck.exe', when I click on it, it asks whether I would like an unknown application on my PC? Any idea what this program is? Is it an actual W7 built-in program?
Thanks

Java Update service.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

Same here, I can't understand why Sun/Java would allow this to happen, or Microsoft not enable Windows 7 to be able to recognise the publisher.
Very annoying to need to google possible error warnings on a brand new computer which is kept so uncorrupt its a virtual Ann Widdicombe!0 -

You can disable it from starting up with your computer by putting "msconfig" in the Search box on Start menu.
But tbh Java is one of the things you do want kept up to date ASAP (along with your AVG, Flash, Adobe Reader and your web browser).0 -
avast is better than avg

what happened to the acer?
Oops, sorry, wrong Acer. my head must have been in the gardening forum!!
I suspect youre referring to the mop head I was worried about, not another type of Acer.
Serena's advice was good, repotted acer and its thriving. Advice came in the nick of time!.
re the questions, I'm following the advice given but am still annoyed that we are put through the worry and research by a reputable firm not having looked after all the little details, like file recognition!
BTW dont yet know what AVAST and AVG mean, need a jargon boost.0
