Second year service - dealer or private??

I wonder if someone can offer some advice...

I have a 2 year old Honda Civic Tyre R which is due for its second year service next week.

The first was carried out by a Honda dealership and I have just been quoted £220 for it's second year service...which seems extortionate for an oil change and some standard checks!

The main reason for my post is that I am selling my car later this year, so is it safer to stay with the reputable garage/dealer for full Honda service history or should I go independent...save money in the short term, but will this affect it's longer term value?

Finally - has anyone used the online company "servicestop"co uk for a service...they seem good VFM but are they reputable?

Any help/advice would be greatly received.

Do you know what is involved in the 2nd year service? Will be a lot more than just oil change.

You can of course take it elswhere and if they use the correct parts and procedures it won't invalidate your warranty.

But if I came to buy it I would be knocking off a grand (or more likely walking away) when I saw it wasn't a Honda service in the book.

Don't be a tight wad and go and pay up.

    Go with the dealer
Not worth the hassle or risk of using a smaller independent in both the value aspect of the FMSH and also if they balls up and void the warranty.

I wouldn't buy it if it wasn't a dealer service in warranty.

I had an Alfa a couple of years ago, and the standard of servicing from the main stealer (who has now closed down), was frankly abysmal. After one major service, where they had charged to put right an electric window motor, I drove home and found the car would not lock. They had fitted the door trim incorrectly, and I had to drive 20 miles back to them to get it sorted. How about new wiper blades for a GTV for £90!! I purchased ones of the net (Champion) which do the job fine. I then took the car to a respected independent, mentioned in the owners club, and the difference in quality and price is astounding.
So, ask around and see if friends or relatives can recommend an independent garage, because there is really no need to use a main stealer any more.
  • I too wouldn't entertain a type R or any other specialist car unless it's been serviced by the proper people.

Another vote for main dealer with a car so new and so specialised.
He who has four and spends five, needs neither purse nor pocket

I think saving £100 now will cost you more in the part ex deal/private sale, whats glass guide say for values between top book and middle book or middle book and bottom book?

That service could mean the difference.

When buying a 2nd hand car I also look at the tyres, if the previous owner put on Michellin, Goodyear, Continentals etc then i think someone who didnt mind spending money looking after the car properly.
Budget tyres and I think someone who tried to save money every step of the way.

Excellent advice there, but keep it quiet or everyone will be doing the same..;)

servicestop.co.uk is not even a real website. It's just a domain parking page full of spam content provided by Sedo.
