I would say the woodwork, because you can wipe wallpaper paste off the woodwork, but wiping gloss off the wallpaper is a whole different game:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0

Always gloss.

When you gloss your skirting board, always paint the half inch above them too, you'll see why when you hang the paper.
Same as the ceiling, if you are papering the walls when you paint the ceiling, paint half inch down along the top of the walls too.
This is just in case the paper is a millimetre or three short :cool:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Plus, if you do your glosswork first, you get to have a break while it dries which is always nice :cool:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Interesting thread, I have the hall to decorate, wallpaper going on one wall and painting the rest, new plaster and new skirting boards so what do I do first?
ETA, the wall that will be papered should it be painted first as its all new plaster?0 -
No, you don't need to paint it first but you will have to size it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Speed. You'll find a pro will always gloss last if the walls are painted because he doesn't have to wait for the gloss (or whatever topcoat) to dry on the woodwork before emulsioning walls. Rule of thumb if all of it is painted - ceiling first, walls next, woodwork last.crystaltips_68 wrote: »Why is it different if you paint the walls?? Thanks!
Always wallpaper last though as has been said several times above.
