*Updated* So upset - purse stolen this afternoon

I know this is not strictly DFW, but I always feel so well supported here so apologies if this is the wrong board.
I received a phone call at work this afternoon from someone claiming to be from my bank, supposedley about to apprehend someone after running up nearly £1000 worth of goods on my card. It was only when I checked my bag, I realised my purse was missing. The man went into quite elaborate detail about the purchase made, and then asked if I could confirm my middle name and the last 4 digits of my card. I was beside myself at this point imagining my account being drained, but luckily common sense kicked in (from reading this board about scams) and I questioned him. He then hung up.
After cancelled the cards and checking the contents of my office etc, I got talking to the Receptionist, and it appears someone did enter the building acting strangely. I actually brushed against him in the corridor and apologised  and we are guessing he entered my empty office and grabbed my purse from my bag under the desk.
Although I've been extremely upset, please excuse the spelling, I've only just stopped shaking (we got broken into not so long ago really and it bought it all back), I am also so glad that I had seen the information on here regarding giving personal information out.
So thank you all, and I hope his willy develops some vile disease and drops off.

You poor thing, well done for your quick thinking in such circumstances.
I was broken into earlier this year, so know those feelings all to well.
I'm afraid my curse on the culpret is not printable on these boards:mad: but I will go with the other two mentioned for now.
Hope you got the card stopped in time.

I really feel for you and well done for such quick thinking at such a stressful time.:T
I assume that you have reported all this to the police.0 -
Oh you poor thing

Hope that you're feeling okay now. Some people really are scum!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
This sounds like a quite common con as the exact same thing happened to someone on another message board I read a couple of years ago.
Hope you get it all sorted.0 -
Thanks guys.
I very nearly gave him the information as I was so upset. He was very practised and confident, but it was only due to MSE that I managed to stop myself. He also got frustrated with me delaying and that gave it away really.
I've cancelled my cards and checked twice with the bank to make sure no transactions have occurred. Have also changed all of my online passwords and they were in my desk drawer (albeit not easy to work out what they were but the whole thing has really shaken me).
The police are coming to my office to see me and the Receptionist tomorrow, as we both got a good look at him. Assumming it is him of course, but as been as he appeared at 4ish, then I got a phone call at 4.30 at work where this person had just been spotted, it seems to fit. Maybe I should leave the police work to the police lolIts nice to be important but more important to be nice!0 -
It's not a nice feeling when someone steals from you, but well done on your quick thinking, hugs to you...0

Well done to you. All you can do is tell the police what you know. The rest is up to them.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Having started my PA career on a reception front desk - bawl out your company!
Thats what the receptionist is flamin there for! To stop strangers from entering the building!
She needs serious re-training, the company needs to seriously re-write their policies and you want to ask them what they intend to do about your loss. (Did the criminals actually spend on your card, or was this just the ploy for info?)
I am livid some scum stole your purse. Its abhorant. And there is no way this stranger would have got past my team on reception - at any of the companies I have worked for, and they should not have gotten past yours - regardless of how "open policied" the company is.0 -
