My daughter was put on it cos she kept forgetting to take the pill. She was a hormonal cow at that TOTM. Worked wonders! She put on a wee bit of weight, nothing major. Because of other health problems (unrelated but erring on the side of caution), she now has the implants, no difference to her apart from not needing to go to the doctors every 3 months. She was well happy with the depo injections

I was on it for years, the first time I was losing weight (stress related) the second time I put on weight. Since I've come off it I've had some hormone symptoms that I didn't have before, I'm not sure it caused it but if I could do it all again I wouldn't go on it.

  • I agree with Hermanmunster - it's something no one can advise you on really...you won't know if it's for you or not until you try it. I had it and loved the face that my periods stopped.. but my libido completely disappeared to the point that sex was something my poor boyfriend had to practically beg for! Good luck with whatever you decide.

Personallyi put on 4 stone in the time i was on it, but bear in mind i'd just moved to uni so my lifestyle wasn't the healthiest. It also stopped my periods :) Ended up coming off it cos i missed and injection (my nan had just died). I would go back on it but cos i'm still overweight so they won't let me.

Do you have to be below a certain weight?
    Do you know what weight?

i was on depo for 8 years.
    *did affect my sex drive.
*did put on weight..but i changed jobs from one where i was on my feet, waking round all day to one where i was sat on my bum all day.
*did find it harder to lose weight while on depo

when i came of depo to start a family it was about 9 months before my periods were regular. and then a further 6 months to fall pregnant. they advise that if youhavent fallen pregnant after 2 years to see a dr, this is changed to 1 year if you are 35+

i loved not having periods. took about 3 months for this to happen, some women spot but i rarely did.

have just gone on cerazette which is similar to depo in that you dont get periods but is a tablet you must take everyday ( there is a 12hr window) or your fertility comes straight back.

i would certainly try it OP and see how you get on. it may be for you or it may not.

BP should be normal range and not sure bout weight but this http://www.womens-health.co.uk/depo.html website may help you more.

I was on it for must have been over ten years, and I would NOT take it again.

I put on two stone, it made me depressed on a 12-week cycle (interestingly you have depo every 12 weeks), and I mean proper depression, I ende dup on tablets, and it really wasn't worth not having periods IMO.

I would never put hormones into my body again.

My younger sister went on it. Before she went on it, she was a size 12 and had a lovely personality. She went on it, and was taken off less than a year later as she'd ballooned to a size 24 and have SEVERE anger issues (one time involving the police)

Now she's off it, she's losing weight and is less angsty

I do it all because I'm scared.
  • I have been on it for just under a year. I forgot to take the pill all the time, I just wanted something hassle free that I didn't need to remember to take everyday.

My periods have almost completely gone, I had a bleed at the end of the first 3 months, and then again more recently after the last jab I had.

I had really heavy periods before, I would lose a lot of blood etc but I have only had two in a year, it's been great.

Re the pregnancy thing I just get some cheap tests, and do one every now and then to make sure :)

My weight is always up and down, so I can't really comment on that side of things, but I did lose weight on it, I think I have put it back on during xmas though :o

As someone has already mentioned you don't really know if it's going to work for you unless you try it, good luck :)
