Sterilisation- any age limit for private?

Have you considered mirena coil as an alternative? I went to gynea clinic when I was 32 (with 2 kids) with the intention of sterilisation but after lots of discussion & reading decided this was a better option than sterilisation and haven't looked back since then!!
Perhaps you could use a coil for a couple of years then if you are still sure about sterilisation it could be an option a couple of years down the line.0 -
I'm a bit confused by that comment "the more damage they do" - in order to do the operation at a younger age???
I was under 30 at the time and it all seemed very straightforward to me - I was shown 2 clips (much the same length as hairgrips - but a bit thicker) and told "we will be clipping your tubes with 2 of these".
There are 3 main methods, Filshie Clips, wich you had, cutting and tying, or burning and sealing electrically. There is also a 4th method, essure, but that's quite new. The clips is the easiest to reverse.
Using any one method is more likely to fail in a younger woman than an older one. So some clinics try to avoid that by doubling up, for example burning and clipping, or burning a much larger portion of the fallopian tube.
In under 30's the failure rate of sterilisation is virtually the same as IUD, impant or injection. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -

Ah...I remember them telling me that the failure rate was 0.1% as I recall (and, as I was on the Pill at the time, where I had been told the failure rate was 1% - I thought that was a good deal). They also told me that if I was the one that came up on that 0.1% failure rate - then they would put matters right free of charge - ie do the abortion and then re-do the sterilisation. Well - it worked perfectly - so there was no question of a "re-visit" anyway - and I come from a very "fertile" family. I have no doubt at all that I would have had my two children and LOTS more as well if I had let Nature "take its course" - NO CHANCE:eek:
I always knew that I basically had two choices:
Either totally effective contraception (backed up by an abortion if I had ever needed it - which I didnt)
OR
- live the life of a nun
Otherwise I would have ended up with those hordes of children - ill/fat/broke and furious...0
