This has an all to familiar ring to it
Sounds like the same circumstances as the dazzle smiles and ever bright situations that people fall foul to. Somehow they manage to get there money back despite being in a contract.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
If you put the transaction on a credit card, or visa debit card then the card company is equally responsible for their misleading behaviour. Complain to them and learn your lesson. People give nothing for nothing.0

Hope this helps, not sure if I may be behind the times with this info:
We have been able to obtain a free phone number for anyone in the UK, although the call centre is not in the UK the advisors seem very helpful:
UK free phone number:
08082389830
Support email address:
support1@globalcustomersu pport.net
We have called the number, and found the following:
Our call was answered in under 10 seconds to a recorded line, then after a brief recorded message, the call was answered by an operator in under 2 minutes!
The policies we were advised of are as follows:
'Free trial' lasts for 15 days and thereafter a charge will be applied as per terms and conditions of subscription;
Any subscription may be cancelled within 30 days from receipt of goods, and a refund of the 'subscription fee' will be given (the $3.95 or whatever for 'postage' is not refunded)
From the time the call is placed for cancellation, a member of the refunds customer support team will make contact by email within 3 working days to confirm refund details;
Once refund is agreed, they advised that within 30 days from this date, payment should credit the designated account - this may seem like an elongated period, however, I would presume they are simply giving conservative estimates, usual timescales are around 7 working days (this may also be relative to the volume of refunds they are expecting to process);
I hope the information we have found is of assistance and would be interested to receive feedback on how any claims were handled, however, before I am again accused of being 'involved' I would like to reiterate I am indeed NOT, and should this information not be of use then please also advise in order that we can research and try and find alternative numbers / email addresses - but please do not take it personally against me as I have simply researched to try and find the best method of communication and have been advised this is it!
Additionally, I can advise that the previous address and DH8 7PW are indeed simply 'registered addresses' provided by a corporate service provider (company administrator) - the actual business and beneficiary are not based there, and have no actual presence at that address.0 -

They get their money back because the companies behind these schemes are well aware that they are misrepresenting the contract and the correct remedy is rescission of contract as the contract has not been affirmed.
If they weren't misrepresenting the contract the web wouldn't be full of these types of consumer complaints.0 -

Hi Abbie
Check what emails you have from them. If they haven't informed you of your distance selling regulations cancellation rights you can cancel under these.
If they have informed you of these then you can go down the misrepresentation of contract route. Speak with your Consumer Direct or your local Trading Standards for further help if required. Check with your bank for contact details of the company if you are unsure of correct trading name/address.0 -

Here are the contact details for the relevant member of parliament for County Durham:

I suggest that anyone who has been a victim of any of these scams write or email her and ask why these fraudulent US companies have been hiding behind UK limited companies and addresses in County Durham for over a year now and have been stealing thousands of pounds from people in the UK (and around the world) and yet nothing has been done about it?
The local police may also be interested:

Hello again,
Just a quick update for anyone interested - I have finally received a full refund from the company that debited my account. I wrote letters and posted them by recorded delivery to every address known for the company although none of them got collected from the local post offices. I rang the company to inform them that there were letters at the post office and lo and behold they sorted out a refund!
thanks to everyone who sent posts on this.
regards
Abbie0
