Stupid Internet Consumer

Options
Hi
I wonder if anyone can help me. In Dec I saw an ad flash up on net for free trial detox tabs read everything and no mention of anything other than free trial so signed up (yes I know stupid, stupid!) gave card details for p&p (again stupid!) received tabs which I cant use as they have ingredient that I cannot eat and I though no more about it until I looked at my bank statement today and realised that £150 has been taken from my bank account.
Telephoned company who will not refund me even though I have not received the product yet apart from free trial.
Went online to see what I had failed to read and nothing comes up until you have page for card details and it is under heading of 30 day money back guarantee which I feel is misleading, however, it does state that they will send you monthly supply if they do not hear from you to refuse this.
Have looked on line at similar products and even if I did want to buy it they only cost a few pounds per bottle.
Sorry for long post but please please help me - am on maternity benefits at mo so really cannot afford them!

  • O Abby, what a predicament. Try to find some way of emailing the company so that you have some record of your dealings with them. Also, contact Consumer Direct or Trading Standards as they may be able to help you. Also, contact your bank in order to ensure that no further payments are taken out prior to you resolving this issue.

Hope that you get a satisfactory resolution to this.

Perhaps if you name the company, someone on here will have had experience with them. It might help someone else googling them in future.
  • I don't want to worry you but be very sure they will not debit any more money as they have your bank card details and they are very difficult to stop.
I think I read something like this before and it was like a years' subscription type thing? (though I could be wrong).
    Payment a day challenge: £236.69
    Jan Shopping Challenge: £202.09/£250
    Frugal Living Challenge: £534.64/15000
  • Thanks so much for replies so for - the name of the company is quite difficult to find out believe it or not.
The actual product name was AcaiBerry Detox and a company name on the bottle of tabs was VIV3 Ltd but at the bottom of the website the only company name I could find was CyberNet Entertainment Ltd. The actual website is called acaiexclusive.com.
I have contacted my bank to cancel the monthly payments but am so cross with myself. I am usually quite careful with things like this but prior to ordering there is nothing at all about monthly amounts and they just advertise as 'risk free trial'. Wouldn't be quite so bad if they charged a reasonable amount for tabs but £150 per month for a bottle of acai berry tabs and colon cleanse which I did not even order!!

If you do a forum search you will see you are not the only one to have had problems with this company.

  • If it is free, why do they want your bank details?

Your bank can't cancel the payments
You entered a contract. You need to cancel with the company
These free trials are always based on you cancelling it.
  • Thanks again for replies, as in my original post I gave card details for p&p - the product is free not the p&p. Should have realised that something was up when I had to pay for p&p.
I have now cancelled with the company thanks - it took 3 attempts as I got cut of 3 times and the line was so bad each time I could barely hear the people I was talking to.
  • I don't know if it is relevant, but would distance selling regs help you? Alternatively with a "health" product like this I would look at whether it does what it says it does? It at least gives you an avenue to make a complaint to trading standards. I would certainly complain if I had been charged such a huge amount for something of questionable value.
