  • i wouldnt really say size is all that important, and im not sure that you would take power into account with cyclone style cleaners like dyson's as they utilise power differently. For a regular vacuum id say 1000w or above.I have a Dyson too and while handy when my backs playing up they are initially expensive for what they are and ofcourse my wee fella henry does the job just as well !

    hi guys,

i moved out of my parents 6 months ago and have already killed 2 vacuum cleaners. I think it was because its a small one i had (trust me i wasnt using it too much) and it was from asda. Since returning the last one ive been totally confused by what is a good buy and what i need.

I think i need a normal sized upright one (not a light of compact) and im looking for as cheap as i can thought a decent quality. I think my max budget is about £70 though would prefer nearer £60.

Baisically i havent a clue and have been wasting time online trying to work it out. Can anyone please help????

Both my parents and I have had the cheap supermarket vacuums in the past, and they have lasted fine in normal use (i.e. not builders rubble, glass, tile chippings etc.) Are you emptying them frequently enough? If they overfill and the air won't flow the motor may overheat.

  • the problem with the hover was that one of the parts on the inside melted. My parents one came from asda and they have always worked ok. I was emptying it regularly (more than once every time it was used) and it was hardly ever used. I think it was meant to be used in flats with a lot of laminate or something. It was a really small hover. thanks for the advice about size guys. ill have a look now and see what i can afford.
  • Pick up a non working Dyson from Freecycle or Ebay, which Dyson will come and repair. They have a set charge of around £50 including all parts and labour. On top comes a 12 month guarantee!!

Wouldnt touch a dyson, mainly becasue we lent and gave Mr Dyson hundreds of thousands of pounds, then when he was making the big money he sodded off abroad leaving hundreds of people jobless. Bags and repairs to Dysons are really expensive anyway.

    Stick to a Henry

bags for dyson are really expensive? v odd I've had dysons for 12 years and never bought a single bag....

:TThe other week I was looking at a carpet cleaner and vac on a website for Bissell they sell their own products direct , To give an example they can supply new old models (2009) at a very good price complete with warranty , The price I paid for the machine plus tools ,carpet shampoo x1, added another shampoo was under £126 including Delivery- These retail for £279 in other outlets - They were offering a special on a vac for around £80 on the site , They class some of the products for professional use well worth it . I more than pleased with what I saved - £153 !!!! .:beer:

Don't forget new Dyson's come with a 5 year warranty!

They don't half suck a LOT more than any other vacuum I've used. - Apart from a Kirby that is - but then you're looking at £1000+
