Hi,
I have to drive to Hanley in Stoke-on-Trent (Festival Park), my Dad has heard on the radio about a demo that's in the area tomorrow, I was just wondering if anyone had a link where I could check which roads are closed.
I've had a hunt round but haven't found anything.
TIA
MDW

I honestly wouldn't go anywhere near it. The demo is the English defence league protesting about Muslim radicals and the UAF (Unite against fascism) protesting about the edl's protest!
I dealt with the aftermath of the protest in Brum and it was really pretty hairy to put it mildly. If you can avoid it, I would. I'm not normally namby pamby but the one in Brum really was bad. FWIW, the one in Brum was organised for a site on one part of the city but spread out all over within an hour so I wouldn't trust the road closures.0 -
The following roads will be closed to all traffic from 0700 on Saturday 23 January.
Old Hall Street
Charles Street
Albion Street
Bagnall Street
Stafford Sreet
Tontine Street
Piccadilly
Cheapside
Percy Street
Bus stops on Old Hall Street & Stafford Street will also be temporarily closed, passengers who would normally use these stops are being asked to join the bus at the Bus Station which is to remain open and will function as normal.
On street parking on Trinity Street will be suspended for the day to allow for taxi ranks which are being moved from within the vehicle exclusion zone to outside Walkabout to be established. A second temporary taxi rank will also be set up on Town Road outside Poundstrecher, for the day.
John Street surface car park is being closed to the public for the day also to allow for media parking.
Businesses in Hanley will be opening as normal during the day and plans are in place to ensure that shoppers and visitors to Hanley who are not involved in the rally will be able to go about their normal business.
Ive banned pet teenager from going within 5 miles of the place tomorrow. I can begin to imagine the trouble it will cause.0 -
Anyone seen the Mr Plow episode of the Simpsons where Homer imagines driving his plow thorough the protesters outside the White House?:rotfl:0

I'd do anything for that jacket! And the jingle!0

Mr Plow was amazing. Might be some call for it round Stoke if we have more snow lmao0

Not sure exactly, but I imagine there will be a large influx of people into the city via the station as well as the roads. I would think from 10am it's likely to be hairy.
OH was talking to a Hanley Police Officer at a meeting the other day and he was told it was wise to avoid the area wherever possible.
Where abouts are you heading for?0 -

Thats outside the town centre, don't know how well you know Stoke, but I'm assuming from Cheshire you are coming down the A500, in which case you are straight on Festering Park and dont even go through Hanley.
I very much doubt there will be any problems down that way as its far enough from the town centre and aside from a few fast food places is all shops0 -
You can tell it's going to be bad as I was talking to a West Mids officer today who said that they were having to back fill the Policing for football matches tomorrow by shift boobies as many of the OSU (riot police) were being called into Stoke to assist staffs Police. He was under the impression Police were being called in from accross the country. They did when the one in Brum happened, I just called an officer from Newcastle for a trial relating to it.0
