Sky Box Problems...

Hi,

I've just recently moved house and now can no longer receive a digital signal.

I used to have a Sky subscription - but when it was over I just used the box to receive the "freeview" channels.

In my last place all I needed to do was put the TV aerial in to the sky box, use a SCART lead to connect it to my TV and that was it!

This doesn't seem to work in my new place. There are Virgin Media sockets installed - does anyone know if this could be the reason?!

I just get a "29" error number, and when trying to check the signal strength (none!) a message which say "No Default Transponder"

If anyone know what the problem is that would be great!! It's a PACE box - I have all the model number etc if that's needed.

Surely I should still be able to access freeview somehow, even if the previous occupants had Virgin installed?!

Thanks for any help you can give me!! (If I don't have to pay for a new freeview box all the better!!)

Jennifer

You require a Sky Dish to receive Sky transmissions, do you have one at your new place?

Mmm...that's a pretty straightforward solution!!! I'm not sure - I didn't know I had one at my old place!!

I will have a look when I get home tonight! Thanks

You cannot use Sky,Freeview,Freesat ect on VM networks so,
Surely I should still be able to access freeview somehow, even if the previous occupants had Virgin installed?!
no,you cant. You could connect a flylead from the VM isolator direct to your TV airial socket & get analog BBC1-CH5 HOWEVER this is illigal & traceable (it's unsecure, allows noise onto the VM network & can be traced back to your home, you then run the risk of being done for "Theft of Service")
Chances are the drop cable to your house has been disconnected in the DP Cab.

To get Freeview, you will need an aerial (probably an external one) connected to your digital TV (or Freeview box if you have an analogue TV).
You can't get Freeview via a Sky dish, only the Freesat from Sky service, or Freesat itself.
Freeview is a digital terrestial service, the latter two are satellite services-entirely different things.
I'm unclear from your post which services you are actually trying to get?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
