Changing Orange Call Plans

Hi

I am getting conflicting info from Orange about this.

I am being told that it is not possible to change your package on Orange without signing up to a new contract. Hence if you get to the end of your £30 a month contract you are still stuck paying that unless you take out a new 18 month contract, even if you do not want a new phone, etc.

This seems pretty bizarre to me. Especially when it appears that most of the mobile companies will allow you to change to a lower tarrif when part of the way through your contract, let alone when the contact has expired.

However retentions tell me that I could have changed my payment plan.

Anyone had any experience either way?

All the best

Keith

T-mobile only allow dropping tariff down one level in final month of contract. Think o2 are the same now (not 100% sure). Voda might allow dropping after 9 months into a contract.

Orange likely to be the same as t-mobile as they are bothing merging businesses.

Nothing bizarre about - its the contract you sign up to.
  • Hi

This is once out of contract (so the cost of the phone is already covered), not trying to reduce the package while in the middle of a contract.

What seems bizarre is that while still in a contract people can reduce their plans but once out of contract they can't.

Let me confirm - you have finished your 12, 18 or 24 month term of contract?
If that is the case, you are on a 30 day rolling contract unless you agreed to an upgrade at some point?

You should be able to do what you like by giving them 30 day notice - move number somewhere else, transfer onto a different plan but you would need to give that 30 day notice.

PS "transfer onto a different plan" would mean entering a new contract term I guess.

You might ask them to put you on one of their 30 day rolling contract offers (not sure what Orange offers).

Once the minimum term is over you can pretty much do what you like. Which is to carry on the current contract rolling at 30 days, or move to a new pay monthy plan.
The new plans can be 30 days, or 12/18/24/36 months. The longer you tie into the more minutes/texts you get for the same price.

  • Hi

Yes, 18 month contract expired long ago. Tried to reduce the call plan but Orange refuse to allow that (and rang them just before posting this thread to be told that I couldn't reduce my call plan without taking out a fresh contract).

Tell em to stuff it and move somewhere else :D. Ask for your PAC code and they will soon change their tune.

What they may not be allowing you to do (out of contract) is to keep the same package of minutes, texts, internet etc and still be on a 30 day rolling contract and pay less (that probably is not a reasonable thing to ask, you could have asked for that while in contract).

There are 30 day sim only contracts on offer on their site and you can try to see which one suits you.
  • Hi

Have the PAC code now. It was the retentions guy who said that I should have been able to reduce my package, but any other bod just claims this isn't possible. Probably going to go to O2 on a monthly sim only package (and then have my better halfs O2 iPhone when she upgrades).

I didn't particularly want to keep the same package (I use about 1/4 of the minutes at most on my package and about 10% of the texts, not too worried when I took it out as it got me the phone I wanted at an reasonable price), and several standard packages would have been far cheaper for me but not worthwhile if I had to take out a fresh long contract.

    All the best

Well, only if you tell retention ppl. so, or front line salesman or CSR will have no reason to change their tune except from the dedicated one.
