Do you still have automatic internet lock turned on? If so, it may be that something is repeatedly trying (and failing) to access the internet, and Windows is seeing this as "activity" which would stop it from hibernating.

If not, and you've just got the basic free version, it's hard to see what else you could change that would make a difference.

Would you be prepared to uninstall ZA and just use the Windows built-in firewall? It's not quite as good, but it's probably adequate for most people...

will turn the internet lock off and see if that makes a difference. then will uninstall and go back to an earlier version to see if that works.

Guess what techies, I rolled uninstalled and reinstalled zone alarm to last version of 7 and bingo it goes into hibernation. seems to be a problem with the updates.
  • Hmmm. Glad you solved the prob. As soon as I saw 'Belkin' and 'not hibernating' it reminded me of a problem I had with my Belkin USB hub a few years ago. My PC wouldn't shutdown - it just went to the blue shutdown screen and froze (I had to switch it off on the box).

I removed the USB hub, and hey presto, back to normal.
