Hi all you techies! Could you pls give advice on this? My computer was set to hibernate after 20 mins of inactivity, this was working but has now stopped. Have gone to control panel>power options to see if anything has changed, but no still the same. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas how to sort this out. Using XP with a Belkin wireles router,

Does it do it on battery power, not mains? Try reducing the time to test.
You could also disable hibernation, ok it, and re-enable it, this should recreate your hiberfil.sys file, which may be corrupt.
Have a look in the event log (start, run eventvwr) to see if there are any failed to hibernate messages.
Also check your bios settings.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Ok will try0

Albertross, think it might have something to do with zone alarm, the time it takes to internet lock when there isn't any activity. so will play around with it and see what happens thanks for the help. If it still doesn't work later will come back to you if that is ok.0

It would be worth causing hibernate to happen by clicking on Start then on Turn off Computer, then holding down the shift key to chage the left-hand button from Standby to Hibernate. Click on that, and see if it does hibernate without error messages.

wow i love this site, i have learned how to so much in such a short space of time. John, no error messages, went into hibernation no prob. Makes me think is is something to do with zone alarm. If I remember correctly there was an update recently, and this might have upset the settings. will keep trying. Thanks0

Hi once again, have played about with this and it doesn't seem to want to hibernate automatically.(needs someone to put it to bed!) the monitor switches off after 15mins, the hard disks and standby options I have set for 15 mins and the hibernation for 20mins these options don't happen. I even blocked all internet access on the zone alarm cause it didn't seem to lock after the 10mins I set on it. Anyone any ideas? or have I got an insomniac computer.! Thanks0

fixed it! uninstalled Zone alarm and reinstalled the earlier version. Seems to be working again. Seems it had something to do with that after all. Thanks to all who replied.
