I'm lending my external hard drive to someone at work with a few files on it he needs. My problem is that it's also got a lot of my personal files in which I wouldn't want him to see.
I know windows own file protection is a bit pants really, but I'm at work at the minute so unable to download any third party app
Anyone got any ideas of the best way to lock the files down?
Thanks everyone.

Why not just use a small memory stick with only what he needs? IMHO doing what you're trying to do sounds like a bad idea. I wouldn't leave someone else alone with a HDD with personal data on it.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

TrueCrypt
On the other hand, it might not allow just encryption of a folder; you can however move a folder into a TC container but you can't just pick a folder and encrypt it.
But I agree with Tim, why not just pass over a usb stick with selective data rather than your entire HDD.0 -
I'd be looking to move them off the disk entirely. Or if he just needs certain files burn them to a DVD/CD.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
If it's only a few files, just email them across to him or burn them to disc, or even use a spare USB memory stick.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0

That was my original idea, but one of the files is 7GB so wouldn't fit onto a DVD. Well, it'd fit on a dual layer but I don't have the means to burn dual layer. I don't have a USb stick that big either. Hmmmm, Think it's probably a better idea to just split the file then and tell him how to merge them back. That way I could just burn him 2 dvd's.
Cheers for the advice everyone. Glad I wasn't missing something simple. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
What type of file is it? Would zipping ti be an option?
The other thing is to use one of the online file transfer sites. You upload the file and provide a URL to your colleague so they download it. I'm not sure if there is a free one that will let you do 7 Gb though.
EDIT: Never use them but https://www.adrive.com claim you can host 50Gb of files for no charge. It's my problem, it's my problem

And not missing your personal data too0 -
I think zipping your pornography up with high encryption / password would be the best way.
7gb? Thats some movie. Anything longer than 1min 30s is pointless imo.0 -

It's an ISO image. 7GB is the zipped size! haha. I'll check adrive out. God knows how long it'll take to upload onto that if it's free though. Don't think I have any other options really though!
