Anyone else had problems?
Got some emails this morning to my old account from my family and friends to say that they had received an email from me this morning about an Iphone, obviously spam. Not only that but 4 months worth of emails have gone and when I have tried to contact people to apologise all my contacts have gone.....
Anything been doing the rounds? I have changed the password on the account and used the email address abuse@passport.com. to report it as it was the only email address i could find, though i now can't fnd a copy of the email i sent to them so that looks like it's playing up....
Anything else I should be doing?

No more than the usual bank account alerts and other stuff.I went away and now I'm back.:j:j0

Googled it and it seems to be one of the ones doing the rounds....
Thankfully it was an old account but has still caused problems with deleting emails and contacts and having people email me asing if it's true....Frankly though if they knew me they would know I wouldn't be able to afford an Iphone at any near point in the future...:rotfl:
Will have to make sure i back up more often...0 -
Your computer might be infected with a virus, I got a similar email off my mates Hotmail address and I called him to say and he said his computer had a virus.
Worth checking that out.0 -

I thought it might be that as well as it sent it to my other email address, so I did an AVG search this morning, thankfully it came up with nothing.0 -
I doubt it 's you, more likely one of the many Hotmail accounts that was compromised last year. You will probably find that someone from China logged into your account with your password and spammed all your contacts.0

I got this same problem at the end of last week, iphone spam sent to all contacts, all contacts and 14 months of e mails removed. Nothing in my Sent folder. First problem in 10 years!
You need to check your junk mail settings as it can change them so that all incoming mail is deleted and you should delete your signature as the spam can infect that also.
I managed to find my contacts by going through the alphabet and the autofill found them, so I emailed people to alert them and hope nobody clicked on the link on the iphone spam.
I reinstated a couple of contacts and they then got an e mail, not sent by me, but from my address with an empty header and just saying "best wishes" !
As soon as I found that the spam had been sent I did several spyware/keylogger/malware checks with the 4 software progs I have installed and nothing found.
The MSN Windows Live Help have been inundated with this issue and try to blame malware on people's pcs but I am sure it is a problem which hit their server.

I noticed in their forums that they have had months of this problem....There is suggestion it is a worm but I have no idea which programme to use to get rid of it...
Puts me right off hotmail....Don't know what is safe to use anymore whilst browsing my internet on this latop...0 -

neh, ensure also that your existing anti -virus/-malware programs are up-to-date and that they are fully-functioning; if they are past their expiry, then they are literally just sitting there - and you're a sitting duck IMO.

I use hotmail for 'non-essential' contacts; I much prefer yahoo mail for business/professional/personal correspondence - prefer the interface too

I've followed the MSN Live Help on this since last week and not one person whose account was hacked has found any malware. When Live Help attempt to restore the missing e mails they find they can't because the info has been wiped from their server. This points to MSN not individual pcs.0
