Virus on phone?

Is it possible to get a computer virus on a mobile? Is this the right forum?

My brother downloaded a song from our computer and now his phone is acting all weird.

He has a ericsson 750i and the joystick will only fully work in media player everywhere else it will only move down and right and his play and pause button stopped working. Last night his battery was nearly dead and it all started working fine then he charged it and it stopped working again.

We've emailed sony to see what they think about this. The phone is only 8 months old, needless to say he has deleted the song fro mhis phone.

Cheers, Carrie.

yes you can , there was one going around that sent texts ( with a link to download the virus) to everyone in your phonebook... ( that one only worked on certain phones with certain operating system )...

IMO your case looks less likely

It is possible to get a virus on a mobile phone. The only time I have heard it happen is when people go on dodgy websites using wap/gprs. Your phone is still under guarantee so you may be able to get Sony to fix your mobile!

Even if it is not insured? I thought so and was going to get in contact with trading standards and ask what they think.

    Thanks.

some CarPhonewarehouse centres have repair shops, and will repair almost anything if still within 12m warranty / you have proof of purchase ( I assume they claim back from manufacturers) .. don't think it has be be purchased from them

i think this is a coincidence to be honest,, as i cant see a virus hiding in a mp3 file to screw up a phone,, and the k750i is not a smart phone so the virus thing is doubtful,, you should try updating the firmware. Do this on the sony website here, if it hasd a virus this shoudl get rid of it

as far as i know only certain nokias can get viruses

se phones cannot get viruses because they use different operating systems to nokias(exept for the p series which use the same op system as nokias)

Your phone will have a 1 year manufacturer's warranty - take it back to where you bought it and tell them it's not working properly. Don't mention any possible virus - it's unlikely to be the problem, and they may use it as an excuse not to get your phone mended. Tell them it has suddenly started going wrong and you've no idea why.

Yes, My Motorola C975 started playing up. It was duly returned and reflashed under warranty.

I had one more problem when it was disconnected when the number was ported over, just inside the guarantee. They replaced the main electronics board.
