My glasses frame and prescription lenses was cheapest on this one on this occasion. I do feel guilty though going to an optician to get my eyes tested and going elsewhere. Is this just me? I will get my glasses prescription done next time maybe at Asda so I wont feel as guilty denting their profits. Unless of course their glasses are cheaper:cool:
I understand your concerns, but really it's down to customer choice and price. Balance this against the personal attention and 'shopping experience' you get on the high-street. It depends on what's important to you.
I started at Fashion Specs Direct for the very reason that the high-street opticians we charging what I found to be way over the odds for specs. I appreciate they all have overheads - premises, staff, etc etc - but that's their choice. I found that I could make and supply glasses at a fraction of the cost and decided to have a go at making a business out of it.
But, at the end of the day, if you want face-to-face service, you need to have walk-in opticians. And if you make a leap of faith in buying on the internet - and do some shopping around - you can save a fortune online (as an illustration, we do TWO pairs of prescription glasses for £19.90!)
With regard to feeling guilty - don't! These days, everyone in business knows what they're up against. If they don't, they they are, perhaps, a little naive. And I agree with you, though, it is better to get your prescription from the supermarkets or big optical chains rather than sticking it to the smaller independent opticians, inorder to get rid of any pangs of (misplaced?) guilt! Again - it's up to the individual, I guess!

I ordered a pair of bendy varifocals from http://selectspecs.com for wait for it £53 !!!! they arrived five days later, to my horror I realised I had put down the wrong measurement for the lenses........... I contacted them explaining the situation, and was amazed and delighted when they said to send the correct measurements, and return the glasses, and they would send me out a new pair the correct size! How about THAT for service:beer:
Needless to say I recommend them highly. When man sacrifices the Love of POWER for the Power of Love, there will be peace on earth.0 -
