LOOK, Buy a Garmin and be happy.0 -
I bought a Garmin Nuvi 600 a couple of years ago- upgraded the maps at a cost of £60 a few months ago - 3 weeks later the whole thing died and refuses to come back on. Apparently once the internal battery goes, the whole set is useless as it is not replaceable. My next sat nav will not be a Garmin!0

I'm also in the same boat as elektra-2007, I require a Sat Nav but with so many available it's hard to settle on one. And then there's the choice of either TomTom or Garmin. I've read the greatest amount of topics concerning Sat Nav's on this forum and both systems have their strengths and weaknesses and it seems to come down to personal taste, maybe with Garmin just slightly superior.
I intend to use one for both in car and on my motorcycle therefore it must have an earphone port so I can listen to the instructions as I'm riding. I hear that this is a standard feature with all Garmins but not with TomTom's. Also battery life will strongly influence my choice so I can ride longer distances without having to revert to using a map. Again from what I've read Garmin comes first again here.0 -
I've got an oldish Garmin Nuvi 250 which comes with full Eurpean mapping and has been excellent.
For speed camera updates you're far better off ignoring Tom Tom and Garmin and getting them from https://www.pocketgpsworld.com.
There arelots of reviews and on pocketgpsworld aas well and a forum.
Personally I like Garmins but I think you'd be happy with either a Garmin or Tom Tom.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Its a long shot, but if youve got the iphone just but the tom tom europe edition for like £35.... phone an satnav in 1.0

And if you have a Nokia with a GPS chip they announced today that Sat Nav is now free on all of their phones that support it.It's my problem, it's my problem

Don't bother with a TomTom. VAST waste of money. Nokia have now announced that theyre giving away Ovi Maps (exactly the same as TomTom - turn by turn voice guided navigation, only better) for FREE! For LIFE!!! And for THE WHOLE WORLD! Yup, all maps for all countries FREE! ......why would you give TomTom a penny again?
If you already have a nokia, you can get the software from here: (Sorry, MSE wont let me post the link. Search Nokia for Ovi Maps).
...if you dont have a nokia you can get one from as little as £100 pay as you go or in most cases free on a contract, plus youre getting a great phone!
(Sorry, MSE wont let me post a link to the actual phone's, just check out play dot com).0 -
A lot of perfectly good 'legacy' 3g/GPS equipped Nokia models are not covered by this free maps offer, e.g. my n78 is not. Waiting to see if it does appear. Only the larger screened smart-phones are ideal IMO but I'd like to try it anyway, nice not to have to carry a full satnav around.0
