Hi, I need some advice on changing mobile phone networks without getting stung for not giving enough notice.
I want to leave Orange and go across to Vodafone as they have a price plan which suits me much better. I am going to see if Orange will match it but I don't think they will, as they main appeal as the 'stop the clock' deal which VF offer which I don't think Orange will match.
I've been with Orange for about 4 years and am not in a contract, but after looking around on this forum, it seems that you still have to give 30 days notice when cancelling. I would like to keep my number so I also need a PAC code, which only lasts 30 days, but then the Orange contract ends when the new number goes over to VF, which may not meet the 30 days notice period so I could end up getting hit for a months line rental from orange. That will only be £15 max, but I'd still rather avoid it!
What I was planning to do was to phone Orange up, quote the VF deal. If they match it, great; if not give 30 days notice to terminate my contract and request that it reverts to PAYG. Then when the 30 days is up, phone Orange and get a PAC code and sign up for the VF deal, porting my number across.
Will this work? What happens to my Orange phone after it has reverted to PAYG and then the number is ported - does it just die? Is there a better way to do this?
Advice appreciated.
Thanks

Yes you can do it that way if you prefer. If you ask Orange to change you over to PAYG at the end of your contract, they will send you a new SIM and when you ring up to register this new SIM, you will get your old contract number. The old contract SIM can then go into the bin!
