Does anyone remember the incandescent light bulb?
Nearly everyone will answer yes to this question but in a couple of years that will change as the prime minister has gone against public opinion and has already banned the 100 watt bulb and all pearl coloured bulbs with a further ban on all incandescent light bulbs in a couple of years time. The prime minister is banning the incandescent light bulb in a bid to help prevent global warming and we are forced to install interferer energy saving ones, the Gordon Brown dictatorship so far has ignored all petitions to try and save the bulbs which would let people choose what they want to light their house with, I have started an online petition to save the light bulbs at the 10 downing street e-petitions board and would ask everyone to consider signing it, please don’t tell me that the energy saving bulbs will save the planet and save me money as I have a couple of those installed and the quality of light I get from them is poor also those bulbs contain mercury and there are no specialist places to dispose of them safely

please sign it, at least take a look at it

we have a flame effect electric fire which relies on a 60 watt incandescent clear candle bulb to provide the light for the flame effect. Not exactly wasteful of power in this situation because its a heater. if the bulb is on, the fire's on, producing heat (we have no gas supply) have stocked up on these bulbs to beat the ban. what they should ban is those GU10 50 watt halogen downlighters. a decent LED version is just as good and uses about 3 watts. :money:squaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0

Im all for banning the old bulbs, have you seen the new type that looks like a car lamp inside, they are just as good as the old ones0

yes but then you dont get the realistic flame effect..the inefficient incandescent bulb gives out more heat than light, which in this case doesnt matter because the appliance is a heater anyway. its like the old gardeners trick of wiring a bulb into a metal biscuit tin, with the lid on, to heat a greenhouse (not recommended btw) :money:squaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0 -

I bought one of these candle bulbs from Phillips. It cost £1.50 and said it should last for 2 years. It's lucky if it lasted 2 months! The light from it was okay, but it just didn't last. I have 3 wall lights and the normal candle bulbs outlasted that one, and was a lot cheaper.0 -
My parents have put energy saving light bulbs in their dining room, but they are not as bright as normal bulbs and make the room seem dull. They have a slight flicker and I got a headache last time I ate there.
We put a free energy saving light bulb in above our front door. It's supposed to be equivilant to 60 watts but the light it gives off is not enough to light the front door area in the same way that the 40 watt incadescent bulb did. It's not very welcoming to visitors so I binned it and put an incadescent bulb back in.Here I go again on my own....0 -

I keep posting about some of the one's I have, so forgive me if you've heard it before.
I have daylight full spectrum bulbs. They look like normal energy saving bulbs but they give off a brighter white light. They're more expensive than the usual energy saving ones (I was £15 each for my first 2  ) but they are getting cheaper.
You can read a bit about them here, or just Google full spectrum daylight bulbs. http://www.livingiseasy.co.uk/help/Press_Releases/Full_Spectrum_Daylight_Bulbs_271204/index.html0
