I'm a big fan of AI, we have no kids now, so its only us, and even though AI benifits families more, I would still plump for AI.
We have tried the half board, and even went B&B last year to Gambia, thinking it would work out cheaper eating and drinking out etc.
We were so wrong, we could not believe how much we spent, when you take into account for example water and soft drinks, with AI you dont pay, but going half board SC or even B&B they soon add up, and not taking account cuppachino's coffees, and your meals, and your alchol.
I always shop around for the best deal, and sometimes when we have been away on AI, we noticed that we have paid less than some who have gone half board.
You can still go out and eat the odd time, we did, but most resorts now have a couple of A l Carte restaurants on site now, so your not stuck with the buffett every night.
It does work out cheaper in the long run, specially if you have kids, and there are some good bargains to be had, just watch and wait, then click lol.0 -

You really dont need to eat and drink 24/7
Are you my wife !!
Went to turkey last year enjoyed AI but it was a decent hotel .
Heres my thought
Go for a decent star hotel with AI and you get a better quality often newer hotel in a better location. They dont want you hanging around the hotel every day waiting for lunch/dinner but they know being AI you will so they dont want you moaning so they install a better quality swimming pool and a few extras to stop you hanging around moaning, You enjoy the hotel daytime pleasures and often dont stray far from your hotel if they provide a good choice of food and drinks . Kids cost the earth when in a hot country ( although ive never tried to buy one) soft drinks and ice creams alone could set you back a tenner easy. 2 kids for a fortnight is nearly £300:eek:
Now after dinner in many of the AI hotels in turkey there was never any entertainment offered this stopped you hanging around drinking more of their "free" beer and get out amonst the riff raff and stick your hand in your pocket.
I can drink alot but never really overindulged in the AI dont know why !!Although been to places where the beers are a few pence a pint so i would try to drink next years ration in a weekend:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
we considered going AI in tunisia but settled for HB. I am glad we did it how we did though as it seemed slightly better as the bar was open later and we had abit more freedom. We only considered it for the kids so they could get icecreams drinks and crisps when they liked but in tunisia it doesnt seem to mean the same as there were no snacks (we are going back this year and it seems the same everywere) or ice creams at the pool bar included you just get 3 meals and drinks in the hotel and i think there were set times you could go for coffee and a cake. But to be honest it wouldnt have helped us over there and its so cheap out there we enjoyed going to other places as well. there was a lovely icecream bar up the road that we might have missed if we had been AI and drinks were so cheap there we didnt feel we missed anything at all.
This is just my opinion in tunisia though i might feel different if i went somewere else where the kids could get a snack or ice cream if they felt like it.back to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0
