We did walk past one AI hotel in Yalikavak, Turkey and they were queuing up for the buffet lunch!

Hope you find the perfect hotel.

Yalikavak is a nice resort isn't it.

Did you have a sunset dinner at Gumusluk

I went to olu deniz resort in Turkey and it was like being in a 4star hotel the chefs came out each evening to proudly stand by their food.
Good Luck I hope you find somthing you like.

I haven't been there for a few years now, but it was a lovely hotel. Not loads of restaurants to choose from (1 restaurant & 1 snack bar) but what they did was very good.
  • It depends where you go ( although personally i hate AI )

Just got back from St Lucia , we didnt go all inclusive , the Rodney bay area has too many great restaurants to go AI , it was expensive tho , probably cheaper then the cheapest AI , but then we didnt eat out 3 times a day nor did we drink loads ( but then we wouldnt anyway ) .........BUT the food we did eat was first class , the choice was much more varied , and the experience a whole lot nicer . AI is fine if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere .......but then why would you want to go on holiday and never experience anything the country has to offer ? You really dont need to eat and drink 24/7

Glad you had a good time .
In defence of A1 , I Like the 'grand' buffet. I like to look at what's on offer .
take a small amount , try it .... and may be get some more.
I get what I want , in the amount that suits me.
I am not a fan of just receiving a menu , and making my mind up with a description.

Can a small restaurant produce a more varied menu than a Large hotel ??
    Logic says no.

Totally agree , but its nice to choose when you want to eat.

AI is fine if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere

Another point of agreement , I think Ai started because the hotels were built in the middle of nowhere! You ( in the hotels I have stayed at) have to make an effort / journey to see the sights.
I also think you are more likly to get in conversation with a waiter/waitress / (cleaner ) you have seen for a few days , rather than a one off meeting in 'another' restaurant.

We've been AI twice and are going again at the end of next month.
We do however, take spending money with us and we will have a couple of nice meals a week out, in a restaurant not in the hotel.

This time room only was only £200 cheaper pp than AI. Now we could spend that just on drink. Add in breakfast and lunch and it's still chepaer even if you always eat your main meal out.

Yalikavak was a LOVELY resort in 1995 ;).

We saw lots of changes, mainly the masses of buildings all over the hillsides.

We thought that Turgutreis hadn't changed that much since 1998 when we last visited Turkey - apart from the new AI hotels and the new promenade.

We did visit Gemusluk but only during the day.

    Sorry, off-topic.:o

we always go AI usually to Egypt and find it great value for money. It is not just your meals and booze but water during the day (and in egypt in the summer you drink a lot of water) your evening entertainment, activities during the day, sunbeds, beach towels, peddleos and we have even had wind surfing, water park and canoes as part of some packages.
Then you have the aspect of being able to enjoy a day on the beach and not having to worry about carrying enough money areound with you or eeking out your cash on the last few days of the holiday.

If you choose your AI hotel wisely and go for the best you can aford you can often find hotels that have several differnt types of restrauants all as part of the AI which if you are likely to get board with a very similar choice of food everynight can solve that problem

Thanks again for all the posts guys really helping!

It is Egypt we are thinking of going to - the sharks bay area I think... anyone any experience here? Have always wanted to go to egypt and heard all the excursions you can go on and stuff so it sounds brill! Also looking for someone really hot as we have been to spain past 2 years and end uphaving 3 or 4 days covered in cloud!

I think it will defo by AI we go, as it is giving us a great destination and lovely looking hotel that has good reviews on trip advisor and it is only about 200 more expensive than we would have paid for SC. We will still be taking smoe spending money though just so we can try eating out here and there and incase we fancy any extra drinks out and about or stuff.

We went on our first AI last year and loved it. We picked a hotel that had 5/6 restaurants so we had plenty of choice. In the past we've always been B&B and like to eat out however the euro was providng really expensive on our last couple of holidays.

We enjoyed our AI so much, we're going to book this way again. When you think about costs for icecream, water, etc during the day and drink with meals it does soon add up...

    Went here in 2008

    http://www.reefoasisresorts.com/english/bluebay/

    Really nice;)

We went for an upgrade, it was worth it, the room was large & comfotable with a touch of luxury, the standard ones were nice too, but these were amazing. I bought a new bed after we spent 2 weeks in their 6 foot super king, super comfortable bed:)

The shower was big enough for two, or more if that floats your boat:rotfl:

The al la carte restaurants were nice, the pay extra restaurant was fabulas & the buffet was good too.

    The reef was AMAZING:):):)

The bars & served everything from a cappachino to a cocktail & were nice. Waiter service everywhere.
