Not very professional Estate Agents !

You will all agree it's such a difficult time for all Sellers and those renting out properties but I can't believe a local Estate Agent that has been open by me for the last 6 months or so.

They were very brave opening at such as testing time I thought, last August/September but I thought good luck! They have a prominent position in the town, sent out leaflets, special opening offers, rates etc - at the time we had sold so I wasn't really interested.

They have got a fair few properties on their books, not sure how they do it, mainly those properties that have not managed to sell with another agent - perhaps they are promising the earth just to get their business.

Anyway, to get to the point I cannot believe how unprofessional they are, the amount of mis-spellings and typos on their descriptions, both in the newspaper and on Rightmove. Today they have put a property on Rightmove (which I know has not budged with another agent) which shows a purchase price of £1million 375 thousand and it should be £137,500 !!!! Not sure how long it will take them to spot that one.

Professionalism and accurateness is the very basic service you should when paying someone to sell your home - I would be absolutely livid if they were marketing my property and could not spell words properly (basic ones or not) - they can't even seem to get the road and area names correct.

What a joke !!

P.S I hope no spelling mistakes here !!

  • It must be wonderful to be perfect!
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)

    I never said I woz !!!

One mistake, two, three, four, five ok but to constantly mis-spell words, road names, blah blah blah, it really doesn't look good does it !!!

It only takes a minute to check something especially before you publish it on Rightmove - the whole world can see you've made a boo boo !!

This particular EA just stands out to me, bad workmanship, not sure how long they will survive.

I really haven't got it in for EAs !!

Sadly this is becoming prevelant in many areas of British business. I believe the problem stems from schools that are now putting less emphasis on correcting mistakes in course work, arguing that as long as they are understood, does it really matter.

    Well yes, it does.

The first contact with a customer is important, and if a company cannot employ basic spellchecking, it speaks volumes as to the attention they give to more important issues.

  • You will probably find the lower standards and less attention to detail is down tomost ads and docs being drawn up by the estate agents themselves. A lot of companies cut back or completely pruned out their admin support! Before it might have been an old-school, old bird with a good secretarial admin background (I used to work for an estate agent) and have been part of the pruning myself.

I guess that's what I was getting at - I think because I look at house details all the time and I freely admit I am obsessed - I notice all the errors.

My opinion is whatever business it is (not just EAs!) if they can't get the basics right or even check for errors they are idiots, that is the reputation they are portraying, and if they are EAs I probably wouldn't view any house on their books for fear of being messed around.
