mega random...anyone work for dfs or had experience with DFS + lumpy sofa?!?

Ok, so i got my sofa delivered at the beginning of November, it came and was a little lumpy... i thought i would leave it a few weeks to see if sitting on it would smooth it out a bit... well, it didnt! the cushions at the back of the sofa are so thin now and the ones on the bottom are even more lumpy and fat at one end and skinny at the other! It doesnt look like the sofa is 12 weeks old... looks more like 12 years!
I have called DFS and they are going to send someone out to have a look at it, anyone know what they will do if they have the same views as me about it? If they say it is fine, is there any way that i can get new cushions/pads out of them?
Thanks in advance!

  • If it is actually as you describe already, then its simply not fit for purpose and should be rejected immediately. DFS as the seller is responsible, not the manufacturer, so don't be fobbed off.

I'm currently looking at Sofas and have written off DFS completely.

I don't know if you've seen this thread? Hopefully you won't have such a fight on your hands.

Yep had same problem. Had them out to refill the sofa 3 times, on the 3rd attempt they overstuffed it, so it ended up lumpy. I was leaving the marital home at the time so didn't bother fighting it, left it with my x :p

    Debt-free and Proud!
I bought two thress seaters from DFS in 2003.
They were very expensive and i was told they were very popular and a best seller that year.
After just 3 months it started to mis shapen and looked older then 3mths. I followed all the advise regarding plumping cushions and rotating seats etc - no difference was made!
We still have them as we are moving and won`t buy new until we do so, BUT we will not buy from there ever again.
My parent bought a L shaped suite along with a two seater last yr and it has sunken and looks much older - HUGE dissappointment.

Hope you get it sorted out x

hmm... i was so impressed with their customer service and the experience, it it just the fact that the sofa is looking very deflated already...

looks like we might have a battle on our hands, but trust me, im not one to give up!

mazza111 how do they restuff them, will they have to take the cushions away? (hope they give me ones in the meantime! lol)

    Hi,

I'm in the same position as you, but further along in the battle.

I've had the chap from DFS out.............watch them! Firstly, he turned up before 08.00, even though I asked them not to come until after 09.00. Then tried to tell me that he'd never seen this problem before :rotfl:. However, he just happened to have some stuffing and a staple machine with him.

When he took the sofa apart I was shocked.....no springs, no foam, simply duvet stuffing inside. He then stuffed some more in and my sofa now looks like it's pretending to be pregnant. My 'year free' comes to an end in a few weeks. I am not going to pay. It feels like sitting on a concrete floor with a thin duvet on the top.

I hope this helps and that you're ready for all of their tricks. My DFS repairman also told me that there are people from other companies that deliberately run down DFS on forums. To be fair to him, he did look sheepish when I roared with laughter at that statement.

By the way, I purchased from the Norwich shop.
  • Hey,
just thought i would update this thread.
the guy came out this morning (before 9 like i requested) and had a look at the sofa. He agreed that it looked a bit tired and asked me to show him how i was shown to plump it up. I showed him and he was disgusted that i had pretty much been shown to kinda pat it down. Anyway, he showed me the proper way to plump it up and it now looks a lot better, more like a new sofa! He said that the sales guys dont bother telling you how to do it properly as they are just interested in getting your commission! As the sofa is a particular filling, it needs plumping and air in it - hence the beating we have to give it to make it look better! He said after about a year - 18 months it might need refilling, but just give them a call and they would be happy to refill for me!
Anyway, my sofa now looks more like it is meant to:

Thought i would update just to give some people hope if they have a problem with their sofa! :o)

(Mine was bought from the Farnborough, Hampshire store)
