Heating help pleeeease

Hi I am looking at renting a old period house but it has no heating apart from a log fire.

what is the cheapest and best heating that I can buy to heat the house with electric only as there is no gas.

It is a small terrace house consisting of only one bedroom, kitchen bathroom and a living room. I'm not to bothered about the kitchen or bathroom being heated mainly the bedroom when we are in it and the living room all though once the fire gets going everything should be fine.

Many thanks in advance Steve.

All electric heat is going to be about the same cost anyoen who says otherwise is talking out there nether regions 1kw oil raditor gives out the same amount of heat as 1kw fan heather. It's all about how different things heat different areas. You properly best looking at a range of items.

Fan heater for areas where you not using that much just want to make warm enough to use comfortable then leave fairly quickly i.e kitchen bathroom(if fitted appropriately do not use if not properly fitted) then a fan heater would be better.
Areas where your going to using constantly then Oil filled radiator on a timer living room, bedroom. Eleci blanket for the winter month

Might be better using a fan heater to get a room warm then a oil rad to maintain the temp rather than.

Halogen heater are also effective but they give off radiant heat mainly in infra red so you have facing you and they wont heat the room itself so as soon as you move you lose that heat. As such if your just using halogen you may find that you suffer from damp problems.

  • Don't listen to these replies - basic electric heating is expensive, you need a heat exchanger for long term, which will give you cheap heating in the cold and air conditioning in the heat.

If you get a decent BTU you should be able to heat the whole place, or even look at air to water, that would be the proper way to go.

I am also renting and fitted air conditioning to my flat for heating mainly in the winter.

I asked the landlord he was fine with it.

I saw something nifty in the current Lakeland catalogue. £60 for a heated throw you chuck over yourself. It said it has 9 heat settings and only uses 150 watts... could get snuggly under that then take it up to the bedroom too.

    Machine washable too. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/luxury-soft-touch-heated-throw/F/C/accessories-innovations/C/accessories-innovations-throws-cushions/product/22362

Tesco also at £42 bargain! http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.206-8499.aspx

As your renting - check you can use the open fire. I have friends who are LLs on a victorian terrace and they had to remove the fire grate thingys from the rooms for insurance purposes and is written in agreement tenant not allowed open fires.
