Is my company being unreasonable?

That's a fair reason then, and not discriminatory, unlike refusing because they say you have had too much time off recently due to paternity leave.
The accountant probably had the time booked off for a while.0 -

They are only stopping people who are trying to book now, no doubt they booked it last year, not 7 days before. All seams fair and reasonable to me.0 -
I know know they are being unreasonable!
I have spoken to my colleague as I would like him to come an see a customer with me on the 29th (booked an appointment this morning before any starts questioning) only to find out he has booked it off today!
So try telling me they are not holding my paternityagainst me!0 -

If you feel you are being discriminated against follow your companies procedures for this.
Employers take many factors into account when allocating leave and I think you are just unfortunate.
Life it like that at times, but I do not think your employers are being unreasonable. We all evolve - get on with it0 -
i think they are being unreasonable but at the same time they are not breaking any law. it seems some people haven't got their heads around the reality of paternity leave - which is in addition to annual leave. you only took a week off around christmas! how much annual leave entitlement have you got left and when do they think it would be okay for you to take some of it?
have you considered asking for the time as unpaid leave? Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Man up! people in the military spend months away from their kids, and yes they choose that life, but you also chose that job.0

I suppose they may not have lost out personally due to your absence, but could have lost out as a business due to the snow and be trying to claw it back a bit?
I can see where you are both coming from! I do think it's a bit mean, if they can't allow the whole leave, to not even let you have 1 or 2 of the days.0
