Why is this DVD Recorder so hard to get hold of? Is it really the best ever??

Looking at the model at Argos / Laskys, I can't see if this will take input from my DV camcorder and let me do stuff with JPEGS etc.

What sort of 'stuff' are you trying to do?

I don't think you'll be able to do non-linear editing on one of these but it will take an AV feed and allow you to record to it and remove bits of the resulting video.

If you want to do real video editing I would look at using your PC and a copy of Adobe Premiere Elements, about £70 I think.

I have got one to sell if anyone interested. It is RDR-HXD1095 model. 2 months old, hardly used as I have Playstation with PlayTV.

    Yes, it is 500GB version.

I am looking to sell it for a reasonable price. Please let me know if you are interested.

I think in the fairly near future there will be another 'next big thing' that will replace DVD-HD and BLU-RAY. It will probably be more of a storage media along the lines of memory sticks.

But back OT, buy the Sony.

According to my SIL, in a short time we will all be watching everything via our computers but since he recently made a daft statement about Inheritance Tax I have realised he is not the clever chap I thought he was ! Meanwhile, I am still looking at recorders for my new small, Panasonic HD ready TV and like the the original poster wanted it to have "bells and whistles" until I realised I am just not awake long enough. In particular I don't need a hard drive but it must have twin tuners. There is a Toshiba that is less than £200 and has a long list of useful bits (Argos is cheapest).

JG If you have an HD ready TV you don't need twin tuners. The whole idea of a twin tuner PVR is that you can watch one channel whilst recording another. Your HD ready TV already has a DTV tuner.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Also if you want a recorder you do really want the hard drive, even a small one. Without one you can't do things like remove the adverts from your recordings.
  • Have you tried Amazon? I just looked and they have the model you are looking for. Only one though.
