Cavity Wall insulation - cheaper than I thought or am I missing something?

  • Thanks folks for the rec's! Im still astonished how cheap it is to do. I dont think we would be eligible for a grant as we both work and are relatively well paid, but that doesnt matter when its only a few hundred quid (or less!) to do anyway.

Im pleasantly suprised and rather chuffed that something I thought was an expensive job comes in at a fraction of the cost we thought!

Can I ask, briefly how do they do it? And what level of upheaval and mess is involved?

Holes are drilled into the cavity from the exterior, using the mortar joints. The insulation is injected using a blower, and the holes sealed. No internal mess or upheaval at all, just a bit of dust and noise outside from the drilling.
Usually takes a day or half a day depending on the size of the property.

If you have airbricks they need to have a sort of 'tunnel' put through the wall before the cavity wall insulation is done. DO NOT let the contractor block up the air bricks or this may cause damp later down the line.
