Cavity Wall insulation - cheaper than I thought or am I missing something?

I've just been having a look at prices for cavity wall insulation as the house we are moving too has cavity walls but they're not insulated (it came up on the survey and HIP) Now I thought that it was going to be a couple of grand to have done, but have been pleasantly suprised at rough figures of £300-400 for a 3 bed semi. Then through the energy saving trust website they list companies that offer discounts on cavity wall insulation. Some coming up from £149.

So is it really that cheap to do? Or am I blatantly missing something?

Don`t know if this will help or how much they`d charge but nearly everyone around our way has had this company as recommended by the local council.

How the hell do you get this lot to do a survey? They have broken appointments with me 3 times now.

    Went through EON subsidy scheme.
It took months to get an appointment.

The surveyor didn't want to know the tricky bits.
Only interested in the easy lay and disappear work.
The guy who turned up was an independent,
    subcontracted by Miller Pattison.
He was allocated a very tight amount of time.
Not allowed to leave extra rock wool so I could do the edges (time consuming part) myself.

It feels like the door stepping drive laying cowboys, who lay the centre, demand most of the money, then disappear. Because most of the work is in finishing the edges.

They wouldn't allow me to book morning or afternoon appointments either. The guy just called before coming,
so you can be waiting all day. I can see the later appointments of the day getting no shows, because they have no time at all to do the work properly.

You are going to get a rushed job, so check the cavity has been filled properly before they seal up. They don't care,
because you get an energy certificate for having work done, but nobody knows it was done properly or not.

We got our walls insulated with the Mark Group in Sept , we have a 4 bed detached and it cost us £99.:j From initial phone-call to installation it took 3 weeks. Most of the houses in our cul-de-sac have now been done and we've all been very impressed with the service.
