Marking a 10th birthday with something special

  • Some brilliant ideas, thank you.

Piajewellery.com is fantastic and as I rather like inspiring quotes, I think I might find something there. I did spot a lovely keyring I'd like. ;) I think my daughter would love/appreciate the 'believe' necklace or angel on a necklace. I'm off to have a thorough look now. Thanks for putting me onto them, it's just what I was looking for. :)

I saw someone recently who had a ring themselves and their daughter had the same ring. It was 2 halves of a heart.

Maybe 10 is too young for a ring, but I thought the sentiment of this was nice.

    Nice idea.

I think she'd love a ring, although sizing is tricky for a surprise present, plus she'll outgrow it quicker than a necklace perhaps.
  • just to hijack a little... my daughter is also 10 this summer and i wanted something special to mark it, so i was pleased to find this thread..

any ideas that dont involve jewellery? we dont 'do' jewellery (i have a weird phobia so she doesnt wear any either, plus i think shes a bit young for it anyway)

the photobook is great but we already have things like that,
what do you put in memory boxes?
  • I put their hospital bracelets in, birth cards from grandparents, birth announcment from paper, each years party invitations and any presonalised bits from party (i go a bit ott at their birthdays!), first lock of hair, first babygro etc.

I also do a file with the plastic pockets in to put in certificates from school, swimming etc - they really like looking at these!

    I x
    Target for MAD - 24:)
  • heres a suggestion for anyone else looking for something a bit... umm... memory boxy (!!)

It occurred to me that even though i kept all the little bits from the hospital that they were stashed away hidden,
so i got a box frame and put them all in for each child,
they have the first babygro and a picture of them wearing it in thier first hours, the bracelets, the maternity tag etc and it looks really good,

too hard to describe and make it sound nice....i will go take a pic and post it!

    I don't mind. :)

My daughter is also getting a digital camera for her birthday, from my parents. She has been expressing an interest in one for about a year and I thought it would make a special present.

Another gift that could be suitable, in terms of potentially being special due to its one-off nature, is a sewing machine, if your daughter is interested in such hobbies.

Alternatively, how about a unique experience? For example, a session at an indoor climbing centre, a cookery class, riding lesson/s, a treetop assault course, having her first manicure etc. We have a cookery school nearby and my daughter would love to go on one of their cookery mornings. However, since I already have a few gifts planned/bought and at £50 for the three hour session, she will not be having this now.

Another thought: a couple of tickets with money for treats to see a movie with a friend, by themselves if you think she'd enjoy it and everyone's happy with the arrangement. It's nice for them to treat a close friend too.

Hope that's helped get your creative juices flowing.
  • thanks for that,

i have been thinking about an "experience" of some sort...
she had also been on about a camera for ages and got one for christmas :D

here is that picture by the way... ive smudged a few details but you get the idea...
obviously it looks much better than this in the flesh and people always comment on how lovely and unique they are
