Marking a 10th birthday with something special

Hi,

My eldest daughter is soon to be 10 and I'd like to mark this birthday with something special. As in a little something that she could keep and recall being a present from us on her 10th birthday. I'm thinking along the lines of a special necklace (ideas?) perhaps along with a homemade gift.

I make my children small memory boxes at Christmas with short notes inside reminding them of their year's highlights, which they love. I'm thinking something along similar lines, but based on her admirable character traits that we are proud of and make her feel loved, valued and inspired to continue to do the right thing.

Any other ideas/thoughts.

I bought my daughter a personalised bracelet by kit Heath, you choose design etc, it comes in a lovely presentation box and bag and you can get an engraved plaque attached to the box.

Agree - what a lovely idea. Love the idea by Lauhen for the Kit Heath jewellery. They do some gorgeous necklaces too. Let us know what you decide on! x

What about a charm bracelet, that she can add to on other important occasions?

In our family we each got a really decent tent for our 10th birthdays to signify a bit of freedom (we were allowed to camp in our garden! Lol!) We all still have them and use them now so for us it was a good pressie, however I wasn't suggesting it would work for anyone else :D
  • Thanks guys.

She has a good charm bracelet that her Godparents bought her a couple of years ago. They are planning to buy her a charm for every birthday until she turns 18; a lovely idea. The charms need to be welded on and it was suggested that this is all done when she has all the charms, thus a significant 18th birthday present but the cost spread out over many years. The charms also loosely relate to her life that year. It's from Links of London.

My jewellery idea was a necklace, ring or bracelet that she would wear now, but could also be kept, as a childhood keepsake, if she wanted. Sterling silver as opposed to Monsoon or Claire's Accessorises that she could buy herself.

I've had a look at Argos as a starting point, nothing appropriate there.

Will let you all know. :)
  • Hi

you could get a fingerprint imprint in silver (or silver clay) from each of the family members then make a necklace out of them. Lots of places do them for babies just google it.

Not sure what your budget is, but Pia have some nice pieces of siver jewellery with little inspirational mottos on them that would make lovely keepsakes.

Bangle (might be a little big for a 10-yr-old just now though)

What about getting a small photobook made from birth to ten, I did this for my step daughter who turned 18 she liked it
  • Jewellery with some sentiment is always good for a girl. A small engravement is a nice added touch. May a locket with a picture of yourself or a favourite pet (if any) inside?

I saw someone recently who had a ring themselves and their daughter had the same ring. It was 2 halves of a heart.

Maybe 10 is too young for a ring, but I thought the sentiment of this was nice.
