i own business and homes in both countries and know which is easier ! and it isnt the uk.
This started as such a simple thread and now its on world politics!--i dont think us Brits can hold our heads up when talk of corruption is mentioned when the core of our society is found to be fraudulent--turks dont beat me with that!

    Did i miss mention of a 50pc hike?? !

You may well have done! I posted a link in post #11

    http://www.upi.com/Science_News/Resource-Wars/2010/01/06/Turkey-expects-gas-rate-hikes/UPI-76121262798400/

Turkey did indeed strike some excellent deals for supply of gas. The trouble is they couldn't use all the supplies for which they had contracted(and couldn't store it) so the Government had to pay hundreds of millions of dollars for gas they couldn't use and wasn't delivered.

They certainly won't get deals in the future at the old prices.

Turks are great bargainers and once had a large empire that stretched far and wide--despite what i am feeling from my bretheren nations around them actually like the Turks -the Americans have a lot of respect and see the strategic reason for keeping them as a friend. İ watch the bbc world news and they really paint some creative non-sense about the people and life in Turkey--75pc of turkish women wear the religious symbolled headscarf--my wife is turkish and i dont know one woman who wears the aforementioned and if they did it is because want to--the ataturk republic laws actually forbids the wearing of headscarfs in public building--and politicians are trying to meddle with that to give them the RİGHT to!!--this is just the tip of the mis info about turkey and its people--

i see what you mean about the over supply of gas--could be why the unit price has just gone done--by the end of february there is no domestic demand so if they put the price up they will penalise industry and in these times it would be political suicide.--Has no one twigged that the governemnt control the point of sale unit price and the profits the operating companies make!-thats why the gas is cheap!-it might go cheaper between now and the price hike due to the over supply and i need my gas in winter!-the situation is the same with electricity which is more relevant when you need ac in the summer--i come back to the uk for the rain thenn lol

day two of the great unit debate --cold night and heating was on between 8pm and 1am last night-at 20c no need for it this morning as the sunshines and the house retains the warmth from last night -6 units used --each unit ,48 turkish lira just under 3 tl then or 1,20 pounds to us brits--i keep watch of all outgoing for interest and budgeting--i have to pay for my plane ticket home somehow!!! -as a foot note this combi i have had fitted is suspose to be the lattest spec and the installing company doesnt recommend using a timer clock on it-i fall asleep in the warmth at night and wake up at 3am roasting and dried out because of that--not good financially or green wise

I'm abandoning this thread. I'm off to calm down and clear my head by listening to some Diamanda Galas. Played too loud. (And no, I don't know off the top of my head what one hour's listening of my Marantz and Tannoy system costs.)
