BT bill getting silly!

We don't use the phone much but now it appears that the calls we make during the day are costing us 15p a throw!
(type, number, duration and cost C&P from BT's online bill)
Daytime 22 0000:45:20 5.200
Evening & Weekend 4 0000:02:34 0.110
Mobile 3 0000:01:17 0.560
0845 numbers 1 0000:12:07 0.340
So it appears we'd be 30p better off going for their all in package at 4.99 a month (It barely seems worth it though - but our bill has been higher for a few months now, so perhaps it is)
Is there a better suggestion (Other than walking up the road and speaking to the person directly)

The anytime plan with BT is available for £3.99 a month and also you can get a £3.00 a month line rental discount (given as a £36.00 one off credit) so makes the plan 99p a month on average over the year if you commit to a 12 month renewable contract (so not without strings you have to commit to benefit)
you have to go through to BT customer options team 0800800030 option 1 to get the deal and you have to ask for it.0 -
Oh I didn't see about the discount on their site - it's still only a relatively small saving over the fixed year contract (renewable in 12 month chunks?) and the bloke on the phone didn't mention it.
I think I'm just overly appalled that the minimum call charge is 15p for anything up to the first minute. That's a pretty hefty chunk of money! I'm not sure that working out how to get my OH's mum on skype isn't a better idea, or even using my free text messages on my mobile to send a short message instead.
What's the line rental for anyway? The pleasure of being charged £13 a month so they can then make an additional charge of 15p a call?
I don't think in a normal month we're heavy enough phone users to make it worth tieing in to a contract. (Given my dad had just done this and found a change at his ISP means he's now effectly made a very bad decision.)
I will do the right money saving thing and use the phone less.

Line rental is £11.54pm as long as you pay by DD and opt for paper-free billing. So that's a further saving of £17.52pa.No free lunch, and no free laptop

How come no one's mentioned 18185 or similar yet?
On 18185, a daytime call is 5p FLAT (not per minute), so 22 Daytime calls would cost you £1.10 no matter how long they are.0 -
