Satellite problem with sky ?

Last night I switched on only to get a message and blue screen saying Satellite not connected.
Thinking it was a fault with sky and not my dish, I left it for an hour then when nothing happened, I unplugged the sky box and the switch wited for 10 mins switched it all on again , just got channel displayed no sound and no connection to the programme I wanted to watch.
This morning, still the same, so it must be my dish, which was upgraded by Sky in Sept, so I can't see why it has a fault?
Problem is I am not Techy and dont know how to fix it.
Will Sky send an Engineer out FOC to fix it?

Try checking all connections, scart leads etc. first

Is your dish anywhere that it may have got moved?

If not call them it may be something you can do with them advising you over the phone

Or your box reset itself after being powered down
We all evolve - get on with it
  • This isnt unusual for a digibox turn it off at the mains for 5 mins and turn back on sometimes a forced system software update will cure your probs too you do this by pressing and holding back up on the digibox keep it held down turn off at the mains then turn back on again keep holding back up until all the lights illuminate on the front of the digibox and a message should come up on screen saying do not disconnect the digibox etc etc wait till all the lights go off then wait a minute or two for it to reset itself and switch back on.

If every channel is affected it is very unlikely to be a Sky problem, but a local dish or box problem. Sky do not operate all the channels, or even own the Saterllites that broadcasts them, they simply provide the equipement and technology to receive the channels. As different channels uplink from different systems and locations on the ground and by different companies, only a total failure of the Astra and Eurobird 1 Sats would cause everything to be unreceivable.

The Merdoch empire actually does own SES-Astra

Really? I thought SES Astra was a subsidiary of SES SA, which is quoted on the Luxembourg stock exchange.

Sky, or it's subsideries or parent company, have never owned any Sats. They lease transponder space for their own channels and any other channel deals directly with SES to lease transponder space. Sky simply supply the equipement and encryption technology that allows you to receive the channels.
