Generally it is best to buy the new books as their are usually at least a few small changes to the syllabus each year. Plus IFRS/tax rules etc. get updated yearly.

If you look at the syllabus etc. and everything seems the same then it should be ok - but I would only advise it for those exams which are less based on external rules like management information

think im going to buy the books/text etc from kaplan this time because it worked out cheaper because they offer online help/tutors too on their basic package, the plus package gave one extra benefit which was there was an extra paper to do a few weeks before the exam and the tutor gave extra feedback and support before the exam as a motivation tool. but he advised that most people went for the basic for f2 and f3, because they were the basic/entry exams.

I'm planning on doing f2 and f3 both in june is this a good idea or should i do them separately so that i at least pass them both first time. or are they that basic its worth getting them out of the way and then concentrate on doing the rest one at a time??

TIA its so nice and comforting to know that there are others out there going through something similiar.

As they are basic exams you should be able to do them both quite easily (if they are computer based you can sit them at anytime rather than having to do them in june)

As the syllabus will stay the same throughout 2010 - I would say buy the books but don't book the exam straight away - then see how you find the study and then make a decision on how many to sit

I talked to ACCA today and the advisor said syllabus has not been changed since 2008? Is this correct coz I would assume the tax one will change.

And I can only find the latest version of syllabus on ACCA website, do you know where to find the previous years'?

i've asked a lady who knows people that have started doing the ACCA, and shes going to see if they still have their f2 and f3 notes for me to borrow, does anyone think that they will be ok or will they change?? I rang Kaplan couple of times today but someone from admin picked up and said that an advisor would try and call me back today but no joy?? or should i just buy the text myself, im going to fund it all myself, ive saved up a bit and continuing to put some money away every month too for future exmas and books so I', trying to keep costs down as much as possible.

It depends on how old the books are and whether any significant syllabus changes have taken place

Yes the tax paper will change based on changes in the budget

I am afraid not - maybe try emailing students@acca.com
  • Hi

I'm in my final year of AAT and study with Kaplan at the Norwich centre, combined with my job. It goes nicely as it is generally on block release rather than weekly which I prefer, tutoring is top notch and staff are all friendly and go the extra mile to help, I'd recommend anyone thinking about studying for any accountancy qualification to give Kaplan a look, they have various centres up and down the country and offer distance learning packages too!

Timnicebutdim - I'm in the first year of my diploma, coming towards the end of IAC - am hoping to sit a computer based assessment soon. Do you have a job in an accounts role ATM? How long have you been studying for?

Hi Kate, good luck with the IAC; although it seems all alien to begin with once it clicks it's just like driving or using a computer. I do work in accounts and find it helps having as much exposure as possible - it puts that 3d angle on things, but your employer sounds supportive though....

I started diploma in sep 08, did yr 1 in about 8 months and have almost finished yr 2 (in about 9 mths). That's with about 6-10 hours reading/study a week. Some weeks i've been lazy and done nothing, others i've done about 20 hrs+!.... Don't know about you but some of the topics I find difficult to stay motivated..... If you need any help with any of the modules just pm me, i know kaplan can be a bit frustrating at times..... ;)
