Accountancy qualifications - anyone else studying one?

As the title suggests ... is anyone else studying for an accountancy qualification (AAT, CIMA, ACCA, a degree, whatever)? How far are you through your studies? And if you got exam results this week or last week, how did you do?

I'm studying CIMA on day release with Kaplan but don't actually know anyone else who is studying for an accountancy qualification ... or any kind of qualification, come to that! So I'm curious to find out other people's experiences, how they are studying, and how they find the work/study/life balance?

Sorry for the rambling post and excess questions!

  • Hi,

i'm studying for ACCA, or hopefully was studying for ACCA, sat my last two in December. Exam results are on 22nd Feb so fingers crossed! Did AAT before that.
  • I'm doing my CA on block release. I've been at work since mid December and don't go back to college until summer for my 2nd year block. Exam results next week!

Hi Alizarin, I'm in my first year of AAT, distance learning though Kaplan, am hoping to be able to take computer based exams before spring... I have a long way to go to get where I want to be but hopefully it'll be worth it!
I've been quite fortunate in that my (non-accountancy related) job
have given me as many relevant tasks as I can take on, and I can get away with studying in work time sometimes, however I admit I find it hard sometimes of an evening to concentrate fully. Have been aiming for an hour and a half a day... sadly my house won't clean itself!

Oooh quite a mixture of qualifications here!

Kate - I did AAT before I had an accountancy job and my work were quite good too at letting me help the finance team whenever I had a spare minute. Good luck with it - if you decide to do ACCA or CIMA or something later on, I reckon AAT is a good place to start :)

  • I am doing ACCA through home-study! I did CAT before that but it took me 6 years to complete that then I have had 3 years off.
I am struggling to get back into the study though with a fulltime job (finance manager) and 2 children there just doesn't seem to be time although my training is great.

I would like to do college but can't afford it myself and my work has struggled to stay afloat for the last 2 years so they can't afford it either.

Hopefully fingers crossed that I start exams in June again then onto a roll!! Myaim was to be qualified by the time I was 30 (which was December!!) but I still have 11 exams left to do

Snap! I'm with kaplan too, coming towards the end of the second year. Are you doing NVQ or Diploma?? ....know what you mean about concentrating in the evenings, i'll do everything else first, including the cleaning, before I get the text book out :D

Hi all, I'm currently studying CIMA and have just finished the managerial level (got my results on Thursday). Starting Strategic asap - it's all been distance learning for me, as there is nowhere within 100 miles that teaches, so I love finding anyone else out there who understands the pain!!

I'm also self-funding due to redundancy last year (although new employer is very supportive), so I've been frightening myself this weekend looking at the cost of the next lot, when the last lot are still sitting on my credit card. :( I just keep telling myself it will all be worth it in the end!

Doing ACA - have completed the knowledge stage going to do the application stage at Kaplan(!)

Also self-funding as still looking for a job and yes the costs pile up!

Good luck to everyone with their exams
