this is pretty much the usual standard valve used these days.
Yep - and dimensionally smaller than the one the OP currently has fitted.

  • Thanks very much for all of your help everybody! I admit defeat, lol and I shall get a plumber!! The only thing that could come out of me getting a blow torch, a bit of piping and a little valve, is a part burned down and part flooded house!!!
    Thanks again, much appreciated.

No, not yet. That was what the plumber said he had done. It looks to me that there is a big gap between the two nuts. How carefully is carefully? One turn kind of carefully?? Many thanks :D

The big gap between the two nuts, is it next to the coxix? :rotfl:

:D If you mean the part that my partner speaks from.... then yes!! :D
  • I didn't quite admit defeat!!! I noticed that another valve was leaking upstairs and remembered that i do actually know a oil heating engineer!!! So I gave him a call and he told me to check that the valves were really tight, without pulling the radiator off the wall!! He said he'd come out this morn if it made no difference, so I kind of got the idea that if I did overtighten it, he would be here to fix it the next day. Got my spanners on them and managed to turn the nut on the one in the pic more than a turn!!!! The other one I did 2 turns!!! They are both drip free now!!! I can now safely assume that the other plumbers talk out of their hole between their nuts!!! Thanks once again for all the help!! :T  :T

Brill - well done. Replacing those ancient things could have been a pain anyway.
