Time of for interview

Thanks for all the advice, its cheered me up. Considered pulling a sickie, but not sure if i could do it!!! The type of work i do does not make it easy for me to take time off easily and the times of the interview are restricted.
Going to ask my boss on monday for the time off, got loads of lieu to take i just need someone to cover for me. Going to tell her i'm not happy and that i really need to leave, its either that or i go on the sick!!!!
Will let you all know how it goes. Got nothing to lose she hates me anyway!0 -
I wouldn't say why you wanted the time off. I'd go in and say "You know I've got all this time to take off, I'd like to take this day, cover is sorted (or I'll sort it), thank you very much."
Of course the very worst thing you can do is pull a sicky on a day you've been refused leave for. That could lead to a disciplinary on your reference.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I agree.. I'd go straight to the off sick option. If your new employer says "why were you off sick" then tell the truth - to come for an interview with you!0 -
Have you tried speaking to the companies who are interviewing you to see if there is any flexibility in the time they will see you.
If I was interviewing someone I would be much more impressed by somebody who adopted this approach rather than pull a sickie to attend the interview. It would give me a very good idea about their work ethic and commitment before i'd even met them!
BTW, I have often asked people during an interview whether they are on a day off and the amount of people who have said, "No, i'm off sick" is shocking! Enough to put me off straight away!0 -

I would not be happy to know a new employee is decietful and would automatically have some ground to make upAlways ask ACAS0 -
Hi,
not going to pull sickie, would feel guilty and don't want to get in trouble. Managed to get the time, someone has helped me out and will cover. Didn't say what i needed it for. So hopefully this time next week i will have a new job!
Going to tell my boss i looking for another job, have applied for more jobs and no good at lying.
Thanks for all the advice.0 -
I still don't see why you need to tell your current boss OR lie! Unless they ask straight out "are you going for interviews", in which case the answer might be "would you blame me if I was?"
What you do in your time off is none of their business. Just say "I've got an appointment, sorry I can't change it." You don't have to say more than that!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Its not as simple as that. I work long days, and i am needed at work, getting time of is hard for me and others that do our type of work. Holidays must be booked in advance so staffing can be arranged, and only a certain amount of people can be off at the same time.0

I have been asked at interview where my current boss thinks I am right now, fortunately I was on a day's leave, I get the feeling that the new employer would not be impressed to know the new employee was a liar.0

Couldn't pull a sickie, able to go into work an hour later, just didn't say what it was for. May not even get the job and wouldn't want to get into trouble for pulling a sickie.0
